Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

The worst part is uncertainty

It wouldn’t be the first time I was laid off. I already experienced this a long time ago in another company.
Basically, I realized the worst part is uncertainty. I don’t have any motivation and I can’t concentrate on work at all. It’s easier when you finally find out that you’re going to be axed. It’s stressful, but then you finally know where things stand.
Of course, I would like there to be no layoffs, but when it is already certain that there will be, I would like to end this agony of uncertainty as soon as possible.

Remember folks, if you get laid off...and you will...
NEVER, EVER, EVER take what they offer you.
Your first call should always be to an unemployment lawyer.
If you are an older employee, scream AGE-ISM!!
Staples Canada is doing just that...getting rid of the older employees that make more money and hiring cheap freelancers...in order to clear the books in order to sell.
Great bargaining chip to get more severance out of them...use it!

Tell that to all of my colleagues that were laid off since 2016. Maybe 2020 didn't bring much change, but to say it hasn't changed since 2016, you either have your head in the sand or your just another troll.

Staples never changes. I left five years ago and this board looks just like it's 2016 again.

Totally agree and went thru it several rounds ago at SPLS. All I can say is there is life after Staples. Good luck.

What is worse is when you find out you lost your job not through HR but from gossipy corporate butt kisser who had advance notice. How unprofessional.

Totally agree about the uncertainty and wondering if maybe this time it will be you. And when you find out it is you it is still a shock and a disappointment and all the heart and soul you put into your job is over....just like that! And you have only a couple of days to prepare for health insurance etc. because everything just ends....your job that you loved, your benefits, your friendships and most importantly your salary. Hard to start over but what can you do? I feel for those affected. It’s not much fun.
