Where are all these people going? If there are jobs being handed out that pay comparably to this place then I want in on that action. There has got to be something, because too many people are leaving while there is an economic downturn happening. Help me out here, folks.

The OPs post is an example of poor career planning. Those that are leaving have a plan for good and bad times and trigger that plan when times are tough. The OP is waiting for things to happen to him which means someone else controls his career.
People aren’t leaving voluntarily, they’re being cut...
Common Sense Department, mostly. Also some from the Department of Making a Profit, but that group was already so small to begin with.
What departments are people leaving from?
They call it the One MRO Project because that is how many employees they estimate to have by the time the building is open.
Contrary to what you'll hear from the echo chambers of Marathon management, it's a great, big world out there. Don't let them convince you that Marathon is the best you'll ever do.
Stick around until it's no longer beneficial for you. Always be on the lookout for better things.
Much like the last recession Houston (except for O&G) isn't being impacted. Accounting, GSC, IT, Marketing, Finance, HR etc.. are all hiring outside of the OG industry. It's not hard to find a great job in Houston right now. Old school Marathoners have this attitude that MRO is the only and best place to work and don't acknowledge other industries. O&G doesn't pay what is used to so when/if you start working on offers with other companies you'll see the pay is equal to and most times better than MRO.
