I took the voluntary severance package with Husky. Only concern was non-compete clause.

non compete doesn't have a leg to stand on. it's like telling a doctor they can't practice because it will compete with the company laying him off, its their chosen profession, what they went to school for. talk to labour commission, and good luck in your search!
There were no voluntary severance packages.
Talk to a lawyer.
If it can potentially effect your ability to put food on the table at home it might not be an issue for you. This can be an issue let’s say for a sales person who has information and contacts from their company to take customers.
If you signed a confidentiality clause it would be valid.
