This is only the tip of the ice berg. Liquidation sales are expected to begin soon. No more Sears in the state of Hawaii.

No, it’s not confirmed. Now stop asking ten times every day.

If the building is for sale, then the Sears there is going to close. It's only a matter of when, which the article stated. So the article is correct. With the downturn in commercial real estate it could take a while though.

Sweet! Maybe Jaclyn Smith can make an appearance at the grand reopening as well.

Breaking News: Edward Lampert, CEO of Sears traveled to Maui today to reaffirm Sears commitment to Hawaii and address rumors that the last reaming Sears store in that state was closing. At a press conference today Lampert said "As long as I am CEO, Sears will never close this store" and announced a plan to renovate the store. These renovations will be complete by early November, just in time for the holiday season and will feature a 10,000 sqft KMart convenience shop in the basement. A boutique shop named Eddie's will also open on the second floor. The new shop, the first of its kind will sell exclusive high-end merchandise including sets of gold-plated Craftsman tools. Bob Vila is expected to attend the grand reopening. Lampert closed out the press conference by proclaiming "Sears' best days are yet to come."

Maui isn't closing.
And if you believe that the Mayor would "negotiate" with Eddie to keep a Sears store open for 25 more years you are more ridiculous than I thought. Get out of here with this Fake News BS.

Closing is off. Mayor and Eddie negotiated into the late hours last night and the store is guaranteed to stay open for min 25 years.

@2vba+19AKHW7n Given the fact there is a seperate real estate listing for the Sears store, it most likely is not co-owned with the mall anyway. Therefore, the new owner couldn't knock it down without acquiring it too. Even if the mall did own the store, there would still be a lease in place, so they just can't show up with a bulldozer one morning and start knocking things down without Sears approval.

@2zcn You do not know that the new owner might decide to bulldoze the mall though. If that occurs, Sears and the other retailers still there are done.

The Sears Store in Maui (#2148) is not closing. Still open everyday and not liquidating.

The mall's foreclosure has nothing to do with Sears. All it means is the bank is going to take over the mall and then they are probably going to try to find someone else to sell it to. Sears doesn't own the mall, they are just a tenant.

IT'S NOT CLOSING (YET). The store is ready to lease via JLL (as many others), which has been misinterpreted as store closing by the author Janis L. Magin

Isn't JLL marketing many or all of the remaining Sears stores? I wouldn't take a JLL listing along as indication that a store is about to liquidate.

Loss prevention sent me there last year for an internal theft investigation and I parlayed it into a mini all expenses paid vacation. I am saddened by this news as I was hoping to have that opportunity again.
