Thread regarding McKesson Corp. layoffs

A Company full of "Yes" Men (and Women)

Is it just me, or has this environment become even more toxic than ever before (especially in IT)? I get the feeling that people are pushing out so many pieces of meaningless tasks, just so that they can present a nice "Completed" dashboard with great metrics to their managers. It's like no one has the balls to push back on the asks and it's now a company of just a bunch of "Yes" Men and Women

I like when it’s toxic leaders who come and find these boards respond and think they are validating their actions. People cannot take action due to poor leaders. That is why they leave. It’s why I left. Culture can breed toxicity as it’s done in McK IT.

Replying to: Has it ever occurred to you that if everyone else is basically harmonious and you think that they're all toxic, that you're the toxic one?

It looks like a tail wagger is trying hard to demean the postings on this thread!!!

As the title of this thread says, s—ers like you are the problem, and a handful of useless toxic people like you must leave the firm than majority of skilled employees who are trying hard to keep it to standards. Remember the EOS survey and the number 1 issue reported by majority of employees! Stomach the facts and fix it.

New IT leadership got vision! where are they hiding it!!! Most of the new IT leadership got one qualification - a track record of failures. Favoritism, diversity and other things placed them to those positions, no credibility, no leadership qualities and employees are dealing with it, and speaking up on it.

enjoy the bread crumbs and continue your tale wagging...till.

Please enlighten us. How does changing job families demotivate? It’s an internal titling scheme that has no impact to what I do everyday. And don’t confuse HR with management. HR does what management dictates. Sounds like you are bitter and don’t understand where the company is going. Probably best to just go.

McK IT is very toxic now. The recent org changes on sr. leadership based on favoritism, div %, and other non-core skills contributed to it. Now it started showing that they s— in the skills needed to run a productive team. Let's do another reorg soon :)

Leaders are busy aligning their favorites to coverup for their inefficiencies. Here is a good example, we had a solid skilled ERP leader in IT but a person who has a failure record from the MMS IT got that role and the skilled person left. This fab person lacks vision, has trust issues but will be promoted to the next level soon.

Meantime, HR is busy trying their best to demotivate the team with their wday job consolidation process.

Good leaders and employees are leaving, and it is okay per McK culture!!!

Buh bye “leaders” and “adults” YouTube ruined this company. The forward thinking leaders focused on positive outcomes are in position now.

There is no fixing this until something disrupts the toxic leadership bubble. The adults are moving on - everyone employable is leaving. Only those seeing the opportunity to grab vacant titles and pin their failures on the departed are sticking around. Lots of talkers and checkbox checkers getting fancy new titles and headcounts rolled up under them lately. It's a feeding frenzy.

No- toxic people post on websites and complain instead of being adults and fixing it or moving on.

Ok let’s be real here. The business unit leaders pushed a large budget reduction on IT which resulted in layoffs because precious management couldn’t manage projects/scope, run rates or budgets. The IT expense for the organization is out of control and precious “leaders” “empowered” incompetent people to run IT into the ground with so much tech debt and out of control spending. Now that IT is in the real world where budgets and alignment with core strategies and board mandates actually matter, it’s causing folks who have had their head in the sand for YEARS take notice. The sooner folks recognize the “business” is changing, and change in the direction of new leadership the better off folks will be. If you don’t like it - it is okay to leave. It won’t be a fit for everyone.

It's not that MCK is a bad company, but definitely the wider IT organization has become toxic. I'd say both the new CIO and CISO are at the root of this. They're trying to be change actors without truly understanding the business nor the historical working practices of the various business units. A lot of the changes that they want to put in place is not just about throwing money at things but it's about having people available to do the necessary work. These same people are being assigned tasks from their immediate line management which may or may not even be in the respective IT Organization. So the organization needs to be restructured, but to continue operating as-is with a very top-down approach is just going to make the toxic culture more unbearable. When Covid goes away and the economy bounces back, I can see a lot of good technical people will be leaving to try the hand elsewhere.

It has definitely become more toxic in IT. Seems like our “brilliant” CIO is poisoning the well mostly. Not sure about other parts of the company.

Definitely toxic in IT, worst it has ever been. And that’s saying something. We lost some really good people, and the strategy (or lack of) isn’t pulling us out. It’s depressing.

When someone asks "Is it just me, or has this environment become even more toxic than ever before (especially in IT)?" they are considering the possibility that maybe they missed something. Answering the OP's question with a question of instead addressing the concerns is toxic. That's what toxic people do.
