Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Culture/Pulse Survey

What does it mean? If we voice our true feelings and opinions will we actually see change throughout the company?

Usually around this time our managers will announce some sort of bribe if we get blank score the store manager will do blank

Just check the most positive response and be done with it. Everyone knows that Macy's is the best place to work. Your boss will love you and you won't have a care in the world.

"My store is toxic and results have never been used to fire someone."
Same story.....
Why would I not be honest?

"My people leader promotes my growth and development"
Thats a joke......

"I trust my people leader"
LMAO STRONGLY DISAGREE x100000000000000000

"I am part of a winning team"
Again...LMAO

My store manager was forced out and ended up quitting.
What results did they think they were going to see from the leadership team in these circumstances?

I have played the political game and it has gotten me nowhere in my career with this company.

Now I am just being my true self by being honest, open and direct. Im not shouting from the rooftops or offering my opinions to anyone, but will share them if asked or the conversation develops into a moment to share it. In most circumstances peers have come to me to unload and dump their feelings and thoughts on me first and then I will share mine. I have learned to keep my mouth shut and do my job and go home.

If anything at all GOOD came from our store's situation, our management team minus the store manager, has built very strong trusting relationships. We had to depend on each other, trust each other and make decisions together because we did not truly have a store manager that was there in the moment with us.

When my new People Leader, if we even get one, asks me how 2020 went, they will get an honest and direct answer carefully worded (I know how to play the games)

Oh and you have to put your number so it knows who took it, otherwise your store manager will take it over and over all day long 😂😂😂😂

100% they are anonymous unless you give yourself away big time in the open ended answer.

My store is toxic and results have never been used to fire someone.

“So you just give bad answers for all questions? Wow, what a great way to help guide the leaders in your store on what’s working and what isn’t.”

Ummm I am a salaried store leader....

just to add on... why do you think your manager was so critical in us taking the survey? The store manager is on their assss to get it completed or else they will be ripped a new assss hole. Or worse yet, fired in in February.

The best way to mess your up manager and store manager is to simply not take the survey. Not only is your store based on how happy it is, but it is also based on the percentage of participants. If your store is on the bottom or near bottom in its district in participants, this will result more negatively than the good results it may produce.

@1ytk+191xrYum is correct. Salary can not see who clicked what, you just get the results.

Now if someone types out a paragraph (like some on do here), using words and phrases that is common to that person, or topics that have been covered with that person... well it's fairly easy to figure out who wrote it.

So the surveys are more of a judge of how our managers and store leaders are doing vs the company as a whole?

If you want to hold on to your job a little longer don't tell the truth. Tell them how wonderful it is to work at Macys and recommend everyone to work there. Several of us always answered truthfully and found ourselves out at the end of June . They kept the ones that caused so much friction and others that had so many customer service issues. Imagine running a furniture store without a store manager. Macys has lost touch with the customers and the products they are selling. But you must not tell the truth .

Hey kool aid... you are incorrect. We cannot see who gave what answer. In addition, if you’re in a store with good leadership, you don’t need a survey to know who is unhappy and would place negative things on it. It is not used as a tool to fire anyone. The folks that get their “walking papers” are the ones that aren’t happy and don’t do a good job. There is no vested interest in removing good people.

They roll out these surveys every time they are getting ready to give people the boot. They say “anonymous” yet you have to enter your employee ID. If they see people giving all negative answers then they retaliate by giving you your walking papers.

So you just give bad answers for all questions? Wow, what a great way to help guide the leaders in your store on what’s working and what isn’t. Truthfully, there are things that are hard to impact at store level, but the information is used to change what we are able to change. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good tool.
