Thread regarding Husky Energy Inc. layoffs

Let us take a bet for fun about the date of the first phase of layoffs

Folks: Although going by the timelines on the IMO website, the first wave of layoffs are expected late January. I do not have any insider information, however, I think it will be sooner than that. I am betting the first wave of layoffs will be either on January 12 or January 19. What do you guys think?

And by the way, the reason for my view is that they expected to announce the SVP's on January 4 and the VP's on January 11. So, the VP's will be required to do the dirty work (on January 12 or 19) like they did in October 2019.

I totally agree oil and gas is on its death bed. We need to cry “the west wants in” and “western Alienation” etc. we will get transfer payments etc. it works for Quebec so it would will work for us.

My worry is how long can we continue to milk the cow? The dear old cow isn’t giving us as much milk as she used to. We will need to diversify our economy before it’s too late.

We just have to whine like Quebec. “Western alienation”, “the west wants in”, “lack of respect for oil & gas” etc. We will get more funding and transfer payments from Ottawa.

The fact is oil and gas demand is dying off. Let’s face it we are too dependent on oil and gas, and will require handouts from Ottawa and the other provinces. We might as well milk the cow so to speak for as long as we can.

I suspect Ottawa will need to prop up our oil and gas industry.

We just need to tell the rest of Canada what Alberta does etc. Including lines such as “the environment will take care of itself, that is the order of nature etc “. Or investing $1 in Alberta benefits the rest of Canada by $15. If we say it enough times hopefully the rest of Canada will believe it - Erin O’Toole already does.

Im guessing the 19th. And right on about ariba implementation, anyone that raised concerns was removed from testing. Just a microcosm of the bigger issues at husky. But hey everyone got their bonus for a couple years before they get laid off! Seemed to be all anyone cared about, getting the bonus... not actually doing a good job. Sad to have witnessed the collapse but not surprising at all

Husky does not provide benefits beyond your last day of employment.

"normally" means established companies can provide one more month of medical benefits in which those could be incurred and submitted. I consider our company is one of the reputable ones so hope it will be honored. However, it may not happen. Let's just hope it will..

The one month grace period to submit claims for medical benefit, is it to submit claim for the benefit used before the day of layoff? Or you can still use the benefit for a month after layoff and submit the claim within a month of being laid off?

Please clarify and confirm. Thanks in advance.

After you get laid off , normally you get at least a month after you can still submit and use medical benefits.
Nothing will happen in January, you all be surprised but based on previous acquisitions and mergers, nothing happens that fast.

Submit a medical claim, if Sunlife asks you to confirm your employment status your are gone in early January. Guaranteed they already have a list of who is being laid off. This is from personal experience.

Feb 3 is day 101 from the announcement. Would not that make a good bet?

January 12 is actually feasible despite announcing the VP's on January 11. The reason being that, they may already have all the structure in place at that time and the box filled but no announced as they are not planning to announce the rest of the structure anyway (as per the timeline). My view is:

  1. The VP's to be announced on January 11 will already be aware at the latest by Friday January 8.
  2. All boxes are also already filled by January 8 but known only to the VP's and above that are safe as they do not plan to announce those levels as per the timeline anyway.
  3. The VP's and above that are safe will start doing the dirty work on January 12. DONE

Disclaimer: All of the above are just my own view as IO do not have any insider information to back them up.

The first to be let go, I’m sorry , but anyone involved in the Ariba implementation, be it testing, project leads or any senior management for that matter declaring Ariba will be a success, should be the first to go. Terrible planning, and execution.

What a gong show that project has been, and 2 years on it’s still not we were promised.

A few thousand employees, wow...
And how many will be moving over to CVE.

Did you consider those who will be retiring, those taking a package and those who are contractors and not employees before announcing a few thousand?

A few thousand, come on man.

Well Jan 12th does not sound right.. Cause Jan 11th they will announce The org structure Then they need to fill the boxes, according to the time frame it's either the 19th or even Jan 26th as they said layoffs will not commence until late jan. And all layoffs will not happen until integration work has been completed so don't expect all the layoffs to happen in January, just people who are not required for integration

There will be a few thousand Husky employees laid off January 12 or 19 for sure. But no one know yet which day.
