Everyone keeps telling me that I "have to transition to Clould"... I am not even sure how to start. I've been doing VMware for about six years now.
Any advice would be greatly appreicated.

I agree we are no longer in a purely private datacenter world just like the landscape for mainframes changed tools for the cloud and SaaS are here to stay and it would be good to learn some new solutions. I have been looking at JFrog recently.
Seeing a lot of layoffs related activity going on. Look like 2021 will be more bad than 2020
The layoffs and hiring decisions are based on factors such as, do you speak any of the south Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada etc? What is your cast, creed etc? Do you wear Lungi when you go home? Do you perform Lungi-dance in private? If you are not from any of the group that wears a Lungi and speak south Indian languages then you are history. Similarly if you do speak those languages but your cast is not right then also there is a chance you will be history.
This forum is not the right forum for this question. Try Reddit or Blind for that.
This forum is for the layoff that is very common at a sloppy company like VMware. It is bi-annual event that damaged the company reputation and made people leave due to feeling intimidated and insecure.
The layoff decisions are 98% based on race (Indian vs Chinese vs white), personal loyalty to VPs especially in EUC and similar Palo Alto business units.
Sc-ap this company. Will be history in 5 years.
Try learn some devops tools. Infrastructure as Code. Ansible, Terraform, Puppet.
Other than that K8S
Maybe try VMC?
I forgot to tell you that I work for a large enteprise, a Fortune 500 company - I am not a VMware employee but this forum seemed appropriate for this quesiton
