Thread regarding TransCanada Corp. layoffs

What is really going on out there?

I've heard scuttle of some layoffs in a few business units but nothing to the mass layoffs that these threads speak of. No movement of office closures. Some talk of keeping FT headcount down, re-orgs forcing those remaining to wear more hats, and tightening of budgets for next year. Vacation payout is obviously over. Hearing that they are coming after our personal days now... let's see how that goes. I agree with many here that management is top-heavy and some lack the right skills to lead. It would be nice if the front line employees could "rate" managers performance as opposed to their leaders. As far as benefits and comp, TC is very competitive. Oil prices low, nowhere else to go in industry. Folks need to be thankful for where they are and continue to put forth their best despite poor management, Covid, egotistical coworkers, among rumors of layoffs. Merry Christmas you filthy animals.

They let folks go on December 23rd? If so, that's terrible.

Someone mentioned timing of the layoffs. Yes, timing could've been better. I don't think December 23rd was the best timing.

The reality is that there are people, who currently work here, do not have the required skill(s). "It's not what you know it's who you know" process is affecting the overall performance of the company. HR hiring processes are very poor. Hiring managers have a total freedom and can hire their close buddies or friends who have no skill whatsoever. .... Some food for thought...

I’ve considered myself very fortunate to be employed for this company for 10 years. That being said, I think the timing of the recent layoffs could have been better considered. Lay a bunch of people off during a pandemic when it’s next to impossible to find work? They couldn’t wait 6 months until things got a little better? I guess that’s business but it’s made people a little anxious and the optics aren’t great.

Personally I’d welcome a layoff in 2021. I feel the opportunities for growth (moving to other departments to do something that interests you) have been stifled for many of the unconnected at the company. They hire external now instead of giving someone inside the company an opportunity which is depressing for some. Others are just happy to hold on to their current role, and I think these people are the ones more anxious.

Lol, sounds like a liberal. We better be thankful for the minimum amount a company decides to give us.
