I knew they couldn't justify having so many office staff. With everyone working from home they where able to see how much work was being done and see they had to many people in certain dept..

The truth is, you're never safe. There are conversations about cost cutting that go on all the time, along with restructuring discussions that involve potential employee reductions. The latest round of large scale reduction is hitting only HR, and it's a very big cut. There are always more reductions coming. It is not a very "caring" (a Cummins core value) way to do business - to manage headcount in Q4 in response to needing a charge. It's not really debatable that large scale firings are less caring than strategically managing headcount. Cummins is still a hire-like-mad and have the employees pay-the-consequences kind of company. Unfortunately, I suspect it always will be.
