Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Why Copy Cat LinkedIn Posts Seem Like a Sham

This is a company where guys would not make a LinkedIn profile in fear of upsetting their management or breaking EM rules. Would not write recommendation letter for colleagues who joined other organizations,

Suddenly I see copy and paste cookie cutter messages from so many fake employees (an example "If you have recently been released ....."). Why do these sound insensitive and management fed lines?

Are people using such social media messages to feel good for themselves, to further appease their bosses. ExxonMobil employees only do things when the bosses above suggest it.

Whoever posts that nonsense on LI is a typical spineless, a–kisser exxon employee. Absolutely agree that this is just to promote themselves and not to help others. If you really want to help no need to say but act. Plus, really, to introduce me, and all this nonsense: you know how many great people are already on the market and you think if there is a job opening they will run to hire exxon.

I fully intend to still hang out with my friends and support them. Just because they were laid off doesn’t mean our bond is severed. I will try support them now more than ever. They would do the same for me. I hope you have people in your life who you care about and care for you as well. The world is a pretty aweful place and friends and family are the only thing you can count on. Not your employer. Not the government.

OP I don’t get your comment. Would you prefer your former colleagues ghost you? Consider the possibility they aren’t all evil b–tards out to get you.

Company policy for PIPs is you cannot comment as a recommender so many avoid so as not to give cause for firing. You can debate the policy but it is what it is. PIPd employees also sign they will never reapply to work at EM.

Layoff is different. Laid off employees can reapply in the future if they want to. I suspect most will not but you never know. I myself and many others have asked for guidance on if we can provide recommendations. Guidance has been unclear but I and many others don’t care and are happy to provide references for those who we know were great employees in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even company is saying this is a layoff not a PIP. Hence the willingness to rehire. Layoff was not performance based. It was role based. If your group had too many people it was cut even if you were a rock star.

You're assuming a lot more organization than really exists. It's a bunch of employees who are desperate to make themselves visiblly compassionate.

You nailed it. A secret PR machinery from EM where employees are happy and eager to show off to their friends and family that they are safe while following their stupid managements hints.

Complete farce!!!! People have no shame. I feel terrible to be stuck with them but only for a little more and I will find my escape velocity away from such fake and greedy people.
