Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Always prepare for the worst!

Whenever I’m working I always prepare myself for the worst thing that can happen at any given day. No more surprises for me. When (not if) another round of layoffs happen I won’t get that punch in the gut feeling that my former teammates have experienced. I’ll roll with the punches and take whatever package is offered. I’ve got my financials in order and when my time comes I won’t have to worry about employment for at least a year. Always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst!

They kept telling us to take it to the next level, watch where that puck is going, hit the goal, have that fire in the belly, teammates, passion, and corporate family. Guess that meant nothing-like the us.

We tried so hard to take it to the next level, meet high metrics, meet those goals, had that fire in the belly, listened to the passionate speeches, believed in the servitude as servants to the leaders. and then got laid off. corporate america

No layoffs will occur once you survive around December 18th.

Why, since HR does not want to be around xmas dealing with all the work. And neither does senior management. That is why you will not see terms during thanksgiving week. Same goes for Xmas week.

After Dec 18th, you be safe until the 1st of January. Then the real fun begins. 1-3 months of cleaning in 2021.

Then later in 2021 the process repeats. So you are probably pretty safe right now until next year.

layoffs usually occur on fridays (gives the cool down of the weekend). under the watchful eye of a security min wage lackey, hr ladies, and the slave is told they have 30min-1h to pack up, or don't come in and the cubicle/office belongings will be mailed to you with your last check/pto, anemic severance,....that's what happens in a corporatocracy. You are number, another name on a spreadsheet that costs 'them'–anytime they dont meet fraud street expections, boards, trustees, shareholders, then they cut people. It's an endless cycle with a cesspool of corruption with propaganda/brainwashing galore. The place is inherently sinister.

I doubt there will be a layoff in December!

Was it this week last year that our company had a final round of layoffs? What are the chances it will happen again? If another round happens, then today would be the ideal day for them. If true, would be heartless and heartbreaking

There is going to be a huge layoff. I probably have a 50/50 chance of being in that pool. Ideally, I rather be laid off after the covid vaccines take their effect. Then the economy will turn around and there will be less pressure on business. The problem is due to covid, businesses have learn to work with less people. So, I expect large cuts across healthcare. I suggest posting your resume and see what impact it is having. Laying off before the holidays has been a standard practice. The problem is doing this during Covid. A private company would absorb a hit. A public company cannot ever absorb a hit since the shareholders would fire every executive in the company.

Good observation. very few if any of the "executives" c suites, etc. get laid off .why was that?

In regards to the dead wood, I am able to tell folks that are working early and late into the evenings versus those that do not. The problem is most of the layoffs I have seen are for the folks that put in long hours. I see stuff breaking down after they do the next wave.

My problem is not with layoffs. My problem is that the top senior management does not get laid off. To be fair, a portion of that group should feel the impact.

Most people did not welcome realism, nor truths of the us empire's capitalistic system. Their god was profits and expansionism. Sickos.

Sounds like an HR post and someone who is currently working. Losing a job is devastating. People's savings are used up very very quick. Some former Optum colleagues have lost their homes. The fact is you feel this way now because your employed. If you're over 40, you will likely be out of work for a lot longer than a year in this pandemic environment. Keep in mind, you will now be not having income and will be paying out over $500 per month in health insurance premiums, rent, food, etc. Great to have a positive attitude but you also have to temper that with a dose of realism. You can prepare in your dreams all you want but if the pandemic prohibits companies from hiring and many are laying off (unfortunately in some cases to put jobs overseas), it doesn't matter how many loft dreams of your next job you have...it may not happen for quite some time. If you see layed off jobs being put overseas, its best to have a conversation with your federal state senators office.

They should clean out all the dead wood....people who do little work, stand around laughing and chatting ,who engage in gossiping, lying, slandering people, take 10-20 smoke breaks per day, and supervisors who bad-mouth people on their own teams and ruin their reputations so that the bad impression sticks and these innocent people never get a chance to move up because of being labeled.

Do you know if Optum is laying off nurses?
We have a “mandatory end of year meeting” next week.
Never had an end of year meeting in previous years.
