It is getting harder and harder to maintain my motivation as a USA based IT employee. The focus is purely on moving more and more work to GBCs. I was hoping to stay for a career, but now I'm thinking it is time to continue focusing on upskilling and looking elsewhere. And it's hard to bring it up at work because thou shalt not talk bad about GBCs or our wonderful corporate strategies

IT Employee in the US here. If you aren’t one of the “chosen ones”, it’s time to find a better opportunity and leave.
Keep up with your IT skills in case you need to find another job.
IT everywhere is moving to GBC not just here. That doesn’t mean all of IT but the simple stuff like tier 1 and entry level dev. Keep the skills up or try to make a lateral move into IT management, product, sales etc since those are harder to outsource.
I think you should focus on saving and investing so you can retire early.

former emit here (left in 2014) – you should always be focusing on improving a marketable skill set even if you aren't ready to leave, as the world outside of XOM does not recognize "xom processes" as a skill worth paying for.
Happened to Controllers over 20 yrs ago. BSC’s was a complete failure. Cant tell EM mgmt that....
