No scheduled 1:1, supervisor hit me up on iM and asked if I had a minute. Gave me the news, told me some next steps, took my personal email address for the formal docs. On leave immediately and off payroll Feb. 1. That easy, nothing personal against the supervisor. It's the nast machine up above that ExxonMobil turned into the past 15+ years. I'm out.

OP here... I was working from home today, contacted via IM to take a call with my supervisor. We will receive emails with info and forms we need via our personal email. There will be instructions on how to ship laptop and cell phone in. I was told I did not need to continue to work and to logoff after the call. The reason is that I am in IT and have special access/IDs to corporate equipment and systems, so they want to remove my access ASAP so I can't do any harm.
When I asked for specific feedback on the decision I was told "We can't tell you that information" and when I asked why was told "Because we don't tell people that information"
I was notified over the phone. Was told to drop off my laptop next day and no need to report back after that. On payroll until Feb 1. Severance is ok considering I wasn't expecting anything.
I am so sorry. I wish you the best and am hoping it comes quickly for you. You deserve better than this AND YOU WILL FIND IT. Do not lose hope.
Only the favorites remain. That's the brutal truth. If your manager does not know you well, you're out.
they do it that way so there is no direct accountability on how we got on that list.
but what do you expect from “leaders” that have twice tried (and failed) to repopulate campus during massive covid spikes?
there is no intelligent leadership here
Sorry to anyone being released. I hope the package allows you time to find another solid career opportunity.
I got told today over Zoom as well...my supervisor and her manager...didn't see it coming at all. Also put on garden leave. Still taking it in. God has better plans.
What bothers me is when I asked who was involved with the decision and if I can get specific feedback, I was given the generic selection criteria and told that senior management in my organization and beyond did the selection....so it was basically blind selection without knowing what I actually do.
Did they escort you out of the campus?
I have to work another 3 months. Feels cruel.
How do you get your stuff from campus?
Sorry to hear that. Curious if you've already been asked to turn in your laptop/cell, etc.? We'd heard rumors that there was going to be "garden leave", but honestly I didn't believe it until now.
Sorry and good luck.
