Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Feeling on the Horizon

I have a feeling Optum is going to be laying more people off...does anyone have any insight? I heard April was the next time, but also heard through conversation that they were possibly looking at one this month as well.

The "feeling" on the horizon was more cost cutting to maximize profits to the 1%. That's our only reason for living.

Done corporate buck dancing for that heck hole. Done with the endless profits, done with verbal abuse, done with joke benies, done with very few employment rights, done with it. Right now, the key is to tell them what they want to hear, wait to get layed off, then collect

RN with CSP program.
Well, so far this month alone, 4 nurses have quit.
They pulled 18 of our 29 remaining nurses to other teams. The rest of us are the red headed stepchildren of the program.
This is posturing for a layoff. I’m actively looking elsewhere so I don’t end up jobless in the middle of COVID. Several others in the team are doing the same. We’re all miserable anyway.

Anything could be chopping block as profits over people were all that mattered.

Was just in a town hall.... The vp said the helpdesk is 80-90% in the phillipines... So if they are off-shoring the low level help desk expect them to lay off more state side so they can get that cheap phillipines labor.

Worked there for 16 years, we were never told we ever met any of their ridiculous metrics, numbers, goals, etc.etc...all bs. Because it was a typical psy op to get ya to work hard, then change the goals, change the rules mid game, and weasel out of bonuses, pay raises, more help etc...-it was a typical US corporate tactic of psy ops. Then the ol maybe next year, if this, if that, maybe, perhaps, etc....just a way to get the lackeys to work harder. It too 16 years of this American bs to understand what it really was about. Good luck

I’m also wondering about case managers. We had our year end team meeting today where they told us we aren’t meeting our goals and that is not an option. They then told us they are taking 18 of our nurses and moving them to other groups. So if we aren’t meeting our numbers why did they decide to move 18 of our nurses? They didn’t say anything about what will happen to the rest of us but I have a bad feeling. I’ve been laid off before from other companies and this feels really familiar.

You got a lot of corporate buck dancers that defend their abusers. It’s us Stockholm syndrome. They loved getting abused and gleefully participated in the capitalistic feces show

LOL this guy threw everyone under the bus for the fraud he oversaw. He was ousted in shame yet UHG picks him up because they have no morals. I would call him sir because he is old if at all. You sheep are pathetic.

SIR Andrew’s tenure at GSK didn’t turn out so well did it?

But sure as layoffs march on we can all show some respect as we’re shown the door.
YES SIR!
Thank you, SIR!
You’ve eliminated thousands of jobs, SIR!
Are the investors happy, SIR!

It is SIR Andrew Witty. Or SIR Andrew. Have some respect.

Sir Andrew Witty was named president, UnitedHealth Group, in November 2019, in addition to his role as chief executive officer of Optum. As UnitedHealth Group president, Sir Andrew is responsible for enterprise business strategy formulation, enterprise business development and partnerships, and oversight of enterprise research and development and clinical capacities.

It's going to happen. It is industry wide. Try to get other vp to like you so u may be saved. Maybe transfer to another area that is safe. Maybe GM to like you.

This is a link where the UnitedHealth CFO talks about potential $2 Billion hit in 2021 due to Covid.
To make up for lost business and COVID related expenses, UHC/Optum management will layoff people.

Typically, they layoff in January and February to increase the bonus pool for the remaining.

United employs over 320,000 people. They hire and fire over 2,500 people per month. To us, getting layed off feels like a s—er punch, but to them "it's just business, it's not personal." Always be ready. Always be looking. Turn on the recruiter flag in LinkedIn. Interview with other companies when they reach out. Ask your friends if their companies are hiring. If all of this leads to something better, don't be afraid to move on. UHG won't think twice about keeping you when the senior VP above you doesn't make their numbers or didn't bother to think of a business plan that keeps your team profitable. If you like your job and will get the 12-week severance package, stay - but get the ball rolling on some options so you can use the severance as the bonus you may not get otherwise.

many of these "leaders" were born on 3rd base, but thought they hit a triple. legacy and trust funder hand me downs. if they can make even more profit by laying off hard working folks, they'll do it

The posted jobs are to replace the folks they are getting rid of. So long as the job description and or title is different., it is a new job. And since they already posted it, it is new. Now if you get laid off, yes, you can apply for that position. you will never get it.

They post jobs to appearance of hiring all day everyday because that puts out good image of doing well. The truth is every other week it’s a hiring freeze so it’s all for show

If they're doing a layoff, why are they posting so many jobs?

It will be in 2021 early in the year. It will be horrible. Better hope your boss likes you and his boss likes him.

Covid worked at home has proven one thing. People can work longer (no need to drive) and therefore you can have less people. Since the people have more time, they can get rid of people. You go back to the office but now with extra work.

I am working all day to the night. Even weekends, Even on vacation time. I am praying to be laid off. To survive a layoff is getting to be just as bad as getting laid off as crazy as that sounds.

Nothing concrete but I’m picking up on some cues in my space as well. Go to The Hub and check out the banner “Own Your Career with CareerCare”...sounds like they’re gearing up for widespread redeployment.

Let's hope it's April. Too hard to find another job right now with everything shutting down. Are your resources reliable? How are they hearing that information?
