Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Salary question

Is there any chance there is a sales manager or two here who would be willing to share what your salary is? No name, location, or anything else needed, just the number.

As a sales and support captain (the lowest of the management at my store) I make $23/hr, or 47.8k/yr. I am hourly in a smaller door store. I've spoken to our OOM and she said without much elaboration that salary pay is nice, but I will likely come out better in terms of pay over the holiday.

That’s amazing details of pay you all make or possibly can make. I now have a better idea how much is being payed out there for those positions and it makes me feel better about not doing your work for you. I will keep concentrating on just my job good luck. Have a blessed day y’all.

Depends on store, I was at a lower level store to start and was an hourly SS to start making 33K but was eligible for OT during holidays. Promotion to SM non specialty got me to 42, then another promotion to G50 shoe complex and I was making 52. Another promotion to Backstage bumped up to 60 and now MTM at 62.

72K is the Max for a Sales Manager and 40K is the minimum

Most are in the 50K range. When you go to OVM/MBA, I believe the max pay scale is about 90K

They are executive level jobs no matter if you think they are low level management or glorified sales clerks.

if Macy’s is paying low level floor managers $65,000-$70,000 the company will fold. Period. No floor manager is worth that much, they are glorified sales clerks.

Below. Yes we get that. But us associates who make $11 an hour. Work harder then you. And get the sh– end of the stick per say. Who is the one cleaning last act off the floor for $12 an hour. Me. Not you.

To the poster who says Sales Managers do nothing. Yea I have been around a long time 20+ yrs and still in my 40's make 51k and have had numerous positions within the company and let tell you I for one DO NOT SIT around all day and do nothing. I am a Backstage Manager and I bust my butt everyday to get my job done and sales up for this ridiculous amount of pay. Yes there are some who just sit around allday . But don't assume we all do.

Every MBA I know basically had their hourly rate turned into salary, most said they made more money as an hourly colleague who was overtime eligible.

States that don’t have state taxes, tend to pay lower

What I know personally and all are CSX managers and we’re not at higher levels and placed in their current positions. 1 @ 62k-
EDP less than 6 years. Went to a higher volume store so probably @64/65 now. 1@ 64k, less than 7 years and was a supervisor. 1 recently rehired with company, was a supervisor prior and hired as salaried exec @49k—-not even 50 so minimum is mid to high 40’s. Saw the rate on the job offer and it was 49. Don’t know how long she’s been with the company but I k know it hasn’t been long.

Many of the salary figures posted here are well above the max for a sales manager job. At Macy’s this position has a hard capped salary range. There are near exceptions. For instance, most recently some colleagues from other management positions may have gone into the CXM roles at a rate in line with the hard cap due to the circumstances and limitations of the most recent restructure. Also, There are some states with unionized labor which may affect the scale. In addition, EDPs typically start at above average rates. External hires can oscillate from the low end of the spectrum to the high end depending on what they negotiate. Taking these exceptions into consideration the fact still remains that most sales manager salaries range between $50-55k even in big fancy doors.

For example, It is well known that internal salaries at this level are often suppressed below average rates. Its not a stretch to point out that the majority (x > 50% = majority) of current CXM’s were hired internally. Take for example a former SS making $33k annual. Their promotion to SM would be in the ball park of $40-$42k. Lets say that manager is promoted to a bigger fancy store and their salary increases to $46-$50k. How many years of exceeds expectations reviews are needed to get to $60k? Again, variations do exist but anything above $60k is more of the exception than the rule.

Therefore, it would be foolish to think the anecdotal information posted here is evidence enough to disprove the credible data found on sites such as glass-door where the average Sales Manager salary is listed at $53k.

Wow looks like I'm getting screwed I have been with the company on and off for over 20 yrs Numerous positions Sales Manager, and even a MTM making $51,000. That was cut few yrs ago so became Receiving Manager which was hourly. Then was recalled in summer when we reopened, told Receiving Manager job gone was made a Sales Manager with no pay change except going back to Salary and now over seeing another Sales Manager area due to LOA . FYI my Job is a Backstage Manager so I'm essentially running my own store.

Plenty of hard numbers, by position, on Indeed.
Also great insights there into actual store locations by name. Yes there are dis-satisfied campers here, but also many happy campers too reading their stories on Indeed, with real locations and job titles.

Retail used to be an exciting, glamorous, yes fulfilling industry...now...it borders on the level of fast food...at least there you can have a burger and fries whilst t work!
