Shouldn’t they be announcing it since the new fiscal year starts in 2 weeks? Instead I saw managers offer 2 seasonals open positions in our department. I hope that means no one is getting laid off then. We are a union store so they can’t do shady stuff like hire new ppl for cheap and fire old timers that get paid more.

I worked at Bloomingdales 59th St for 6 years. We are covered by Local 3
I've worked for the union store in San Francisco, got laid off early last year and never got a call back from the laid off list. Been with them for 4 years and only one person I know that was apart of the same laid off time as me got a call back and I was before him on the list. Seems a bit suspicious to me but I've talked with some of my remaining friends still working there that almost everyone I worked with left or never accepted back work from their calls and that they have very few newbies working. I think the whole seniority thing is b.s. too as most of the older people aren't doing nothing but standing around and talking but they know they're safe cause of how many years put in.
59th street is bloomingdale's. is the union there 1-S like at HSQ?
It is supposed to be based on seniority, that is true. However i never received a Seniority List to verify. That was my point. I was to "trust" that the Union reviewed everything and it was in order. IIf so, then why not just give out the list??
Well how many years did you work in Macy’s when you were laid off? It is based on seniority after all.
I worked on 59 St (Union store) I was furloughed in March and recalled the end of June. Less than 2 weeks later, I was called in and laid off. Others were still recalled after I was laid off. I received no paperwork from HR or the Union. I was given the runaround by everyone. Union said that they reviewed the papers including the Seniority List and everything was in order. I wanted to see the Seniority list and was told that I would not get a copy. Everything was based on trust... Really? I don't think the Union is very trustworthy. I called the ACLU and was told to check my copy of the last contract. We never received a copy. They said I could file a complaint . I thought about it, but choose not to. I don't miss the store, but the way in which they handled the layoff was disgusting. So even though no layoffs have been announced yet.. don't think that they won't come. The Union will be right there with Macy"s Inc. They don't have to give you a certain amount of time to let you know. Macy's Inc will do what it wants when it wants, Union or no Union!
Why can’t other Macy’s stores just do what union macys stores do?
Hey yes we got paid holiday pay for MLK but then so did other Macy’s stores in NY even the ones that are non union. So I thought the company made it a holiday for every store?
I work at MCS in Cincinnati. We have gone completely remote so there isn’t the usual “water cooler” talk where the rumors of impending layoffs come out. Those rumors have a funny way of working their way to the truth. All has been quiet about layoffs here for now though. Crossing my fingers that it holds. If anyone has any news please share!
As a union store did you get holiday pay for working MLK Day?
