Unions or for lazy c-appy workers who can’t hold down a real job. They sit at Tim Hortons every day for 2 hours and take 1.5 hour lunch breaks. Then spend rest of the day driving around town.

So true. Bad employees hide behind their Union and are a burden forever. Bad contractors are quickly fired as they affect the Contractors bottom line.

I agree with the 25 year Union Gas supervisor. I’m a long time Enbridge Supervisor and I supervise both employees and contractors. There are good employees and bad employees. There are good contractors and bad contractors.

But the difference is, a bad employee can hide behind the union and keep being a bad employee for years and years. Some bad employees even make a career out it alternating between long stress leaves and poor performance until they can slide into a fat pension.

Bad contractors on the other hand are quickly figured out and removed from circulation. They can’t hide behind the union and we can manage them out very quickly.

Beg to differ. I am a 25 year Supervisor from Union Gas. So implying the that somehow Union Gas workers are better than contractors in categorically incorrect

To the supervisor...
Customers are calling in multiple times a day to report meter change errors. This was a rare occurrence at Union gas.

To the USR...
I don't know what the standards are or aren't. But I will say that I've heard everything from the contractor had their family waiting in the vehicle to the contractor was doing the work in flip flops.

Given the choice. I’d have a contractor change my meter any day over a USR. I think we’ve all seen what happens when USR’s change meters. It doesn’t end well.

"Don't forget they took your 3% to give to the dividend."

As a significant shareholder, I thank you.

In all seriousness, the dividend is important. And if part of your compensation is in Enbridge shares, well...

I am a legacy USR and I can tell you from first hand experience that contractors have horrible horrible track record.
They do not abide by the same meter accreditation standards as I have to. Contractors do not abide by the same safety requirements. If I only did not have so much company red tape to deal with I could install them just as fast.
I have seen the back of their vehicles completely littered with meters.
Many of them get paid by the job, so of course they do as many as possible with no regard to safety and quality.
Lets not even mention the clowns that do our contract locates now. Talk about a complete disregard for safety our our assets.
Zero incentive? really I wonder why with this companies record of taking away from us.
Don't forget they took your 3% to give to the dividend.

I agree with the last statement. As a Supervisor at EGD who takes care of both Company and Contractor personnel they quality of contractors is much higher and repair rate much lower. It only makes sense as Contractors have everything to loose of their work is not good. Company workers have zero incentive and hide behind their union.

Funny you say that. I see contractors fixing internal staff errors more than staff fixing contractor errors.

I hope this doesnt apply to front line staff. We don't have enough workers as it is. We are constantly having to send our people to fix contractor errors. This is going to result in an incident.

Last one was me and I left it open to being misinterpreted!

It s—s to be on the wrong side of "right" sizing.

Not sure about other districts, but 1.5x is what is specified as overtime pay in Ontario.

Hard to be on the wrong end of "right" sizing...

There are two groups within EGD that I know of that got to keep there double time because of "special permissions".
