Seriously, what accomplishments did Pat have at vmware?
How did he make the company better than it was before he took over?
As much as I like AMD, I really wish Intel turns it around. Because, if they don't there is going to be concentration of even more power at the hands of a single company, whose primary business is not even chips. It gives it dominance in too many verticals.
Pat is the last standing good person at vmware.

Intel stock up 10%. Vmware stock down 7% on the news.

If Vmware does not find a replacement, it is a sinking ship. Stock is going toward the $40 before Pat era.
