I have a few counterparts that are skeptical in talking about other things on skype than work-related. Especially when we are talking about managers or other teammates. They claim the chat is monitored and we might get in trouble.
I worked in other places that of course, people know that we are in the work environment, but they were not afraid to joke sometimes, talk about that hot girl on the next floor or trash your manager. I worked in a top 500 Fortune that I even received p–n through Skype and nothing happened.
Are we really THAT monitored or these folks are just being paranoid?

My non-disclosure agreement is long expired so I can tell you a few things. It's unlikely that someone is secretly watching everything you do. Or watching all of your Skype calls - they just don't have the resources to do all of that on a large scale. Managers used to scare their workers and tell them that everything they do, they are watched. If you have a GID all of your access and privileged data access can be pulled quickly in reports. This is also how they "automate" terminations and revoke all access. All of your emails and files can be accessed as well - even if you deleted them. There are many cracks in the system. That said, unless you are being investigated for crimes by Legal Counsel or alleged wrongdoings by HR - I wouldn't worry.
Gross, OP. I hope you get caught.
Everything you send via Skype chat and email is saved and can be pulled at anytime. “Bots” are also a tool that can be used to target specific words or phrases that are in the body of a chat message you have sent or received. In short, don’t be a fool and send personal messages through Skype or email.
What is likely going on is that they are monitoring how much time people spend on skype (and other programs). Then, they are looking at the job / role that you’re playing. Then they are asking why certain people are spending so much time on skype and whether that should be the case. And then, if you’re an outlier, then they are going in and seeing what you’re doing with all of your time on skype. Same with Symphony.
Worry less about what you’re saying and more about how much time and % of time you’re spending. Big brother is watching....
If you are in wealth management as someone from supervision I can absolutely tell you they are monitoring everything and keep records of everything. Key word reports come up for review.
they are not actively monitored unless you are a target, but they do scan for keywords. So watch what you say on there.
Jameee wants reason to keep your small bonus so he watches
Just talk about them over text, they can’t monitor that. Also, don’t connect to company’s wifi when in office. I heard they could monitor that as well
No one is actively looking, but yes, it can be accessed and reviewed at any time. There’d have to be a legitimate business reason- your manager can’t just pull your chat log. ER can and does pull them when looking into complaints of harassment/unprofessionalism.
They won't look unless you're a target.
I would not post or discuss anything private or non-work related, or that i don't want the corporate nazis to see over Skype or e-mails at JPMC. All is monitored and archived for compliance reasons and such info can be used against you for termination of employment if they choose to do so.
Its probably archived for several years for FINRA/SEC purposes. But I don't think they actively look at messages or even emails.
