A friend who received notice told me that she had been hastily preparing her resume lately. Because of the way her superiors treated her, she had a clear feeling that she would be axed. Judging by the atmosphere in the company, it could be said that we are all endangered. However, I wonder if those who were let go noticed ahead of time some indications that they would be laid off?

No jobs, field or office, domestic or international, is safe.
Definitely. But to be fair, the threat was there every year. Just assume it's likely, and be prepared/search for a better job now. Nothing hurts productivity like worrying about losing your job. Don't just prepare your resume, start applying for jobs.
