Boeing Cops A Plea, And Throws Two Ex-employees To The Wolves

https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertzafft/2021/01/10/boeings-25-billion-near-miss-a-faulty-to-the-max-update/?sh=5db571ed7ff9

It’s been said that “you get justice in the next world,
in this world you get law.”
Does Boeing’s $2.5 billion settlement over 737 MAX crashes
bear this maxim out?
Boeing has the best law money could buy:

Also last week, U.S. Department of Justice (”DOJ”) prosecutors announced
a plea deal with the airline’s.
The deal included $244 million in fines, plus nearly $2.3 billion in
compensation to airline customers and families of crash victims.
Boeing remains exposed to civil liability from the (“FAA”)
and Securities and Exchange Commission (”SEC”), as well as suits on behalf
of crash victims and their families.

The Covert Bailout…
Boeing has achieved its most important goal.
The company has avoided prosecution for conspiracy to defraud
the U.S — which threatened to disqualify Boeing from federal contracts.
A near miss from a death sentence.
Boeing also avoids an outside monitor, but must stay out of legal trouble
for three years.
Lastly, the company must comply with any ongoing investigations
and beef up compliance programs.

Boeing continues to reorganize its safety infrastructure, announcing on
Wednesday that it has appointed Michael Delaney to the newly created role
of chief aerospace safety officer.

The first time Mr. Delaney reports an ethics issue, He’s Fired.

Here again is the Union mantra of "its not my fault"

You here it all the time. "Its not my fault I left sh– in the fuel tank, QA should have caught it" it shows a complete lack of personal responsibility.

Here we see them projecting that lack of personal responsibility on others by saying these employees were "thrown under the bus". These employees had a personal choice. They had a responsibility to not only the flying public, but to the FAA as designees. They chose for themselves to be influenced by the unethical behavior of the management, rather than do the right thing.

Should the managers who set unrealistic goals and schedules be held accountable, yes, and they seem to have gotten a pass. That is unfortunate. Bit the two pilots are not innocent victims.

Boeing's drone unit to pay $25 million To Settle Fraud Charge
On No-Bid Military Contracts
https://www.stripes.com/news/us/boeing-s-drone-unit-to-pay-25-million-to-settle-fraud-charge-on-no-bid-military-contracts-1.658315

The DOJ alleged that between 2009 and 2017, Insitu entered into five
Noncompetitively bid contracts with the Navy and two contracts with SOCOM
for drones at deliberately inflated prices using cost and pricing data for
new parts and materials, while planning all along to use recycled parts.

In 2011, Boeing Corporate sent O'Hara, then a 37-year veteran of the
company, to Insitu in Bingen, Klickitat County, as director of estimating,
pricing and procurement to help manage the complex compliance processes
for government contracts.

According to the court filing, O'Hara was stymied as he tried to uncover
pricing and other data needed to validate contracts, and when he pushed
for answers his managers grew obstructive and hostile. In fall 2014,
He filed a complaint to the Boeing Ethics Hotline, expressing his concern
About Insitu's deficient accounting practices.

Though the complaint should have been a protected communication,
Boeing Ethics sent an email to Insitu's Human Resources department
identifying him, he said.
"Within a few weeks, I was terminated," O'Hara said Tuesday in a phone
interview from his home just outside Bingen.
"They made up some stuff, slanderous charges that had no basis in fact."

He was told then that he could not reapply to work anywhere at Boeing.
His career ended,
He lost the extra years his Boeing pension would have accrued.

SOP for Boeing
Lie through their teeth to everyone
Lie through their teeth about everything
Then when there’s no escaping their lies, throw their own to The Wolves
Skategoating is a time-honored tradition at Boeing
Anything to save their skin,
They will watch with glee as others burn for management’s sin.
Welcome To The Real Boeing

Boeing escaped heavy punishment in a U.S. criminal investigation into the
two deadly crashes of the Max, according to an array of the company’s
closest observers on Wall Street and in Washington, D.C.

The $243.3 million fine in a $2.5 billion settlement with the
No Justice Department
was “small,” said JPMorgan Chase & Co. Prosecutors’ attempt to force a
change in corporate behavior was “pathetic,”
said U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio, who investigated Boeing.
And Senator Richard Blumenthal said the deal was a “disgrace” that allowed
the company to avoid larger changes.

This shameful settlement does nothing to change the rotten Boeing
corporate culture that allowed Boeing to mislead, and deceive regulators, Blumenthal, a Connecticut Democrat, said in a statement Friday.

Boeing To Close Its Storied Seattle Manufacturing R&D Center:
In another sign of Boeing’s shrinking local footprint,
managers told affected employees just before Christmas that in the next
four to six months the facility, known as the Advanced Developmental
Composites center, will be shuttered.
Just 10 years ago, Boeing expanded the facility and portrayed it as a hub
of future innovation for in-house manufacturing capabilities.

SPEEA spokesman Bill Dugovich said news of the closure is worrisome
and the union is seeking more information from the company.
