Yesterday, a manager caught me looking up information on available jobs outside the company. He didn't say anything about it right then and there but now I'm worried that I got myself in trouble and basically painted a target on my back. How badly did I mess up? Now I'm praying I don't get fired before I've managed to find a replacement.

There is a XML script you can use in your MOC to always show you 'green' all the time. This way you can be looking for another job. Search online how to set it up. It's easy
Don't worry about it.
Do not worry, it’s not against company policy to do this ie reasonable personal use permitted. As long as your not web surfing all day then not an issue. If you can’t put to one side, just discuss with manager in context of reshape, you feel nervous, you love Shell but want to understand back up options.
Get your knee pads ready and do what you do best. That should ensure you dont get fired. This year at least.
"Deliver quality work and hit your deadlines and the rest is noise to me. Of course our culture is a bit different now and they care about everything else but real work."
Sadly, have not seen managers like yourself for a long while now. All I hear it is all about HOW you deliver, and other such cr@p. It's a real cult of busy work these days. Not much longer for me anyways, so will just not bother about any of this nonsense in 2021.
C’mon guys this is easy. He’s simply benchmarking his value and comp externally. Same as what we do with other assets. People are assets
Learn to use Shell’s BS against them.
I’ve been a manager a long time and would not care at all - especially during times like these. Deliver quality work and hit your deadlines and the rest is noise to me. Of course our culture is a bit different now and they care about everything else but real work.
Also the IT tracking comment is hilarious. Who’s gonna catch him? The automated chat box? We probably have the most inept IT org among all global fortune 500s.
I see DEAD MEAT, s—er. Your boss will turn you in just to save his rear end.
They monitor your web traffic? Well, all that Fantasy Football over the last 7 years might come back to bite me.
Or maybe that time I googled Bell Nipple?
😂😂
OP, I think if you are to stay, the fate was sealed way before all this BS. People impacted are indirectly told to look elsewhere.
They monitor your web traffic. You should know better.
don't worry about it As a former manager (took the svs after 33 years) I can tell you your manager and all levels above him are worried. They are just people that unless they are real a holes remember what it was like to be in your shoes and have the same concerns.
It is a very stress inducing time to be an employee at Shell. Your manager knows this. I would not worry, but definitely would not be looking for jobs on work time especially if I am on-premises. Best of luck to you on your job search! Many of us are looking to get out even if we have made it through Reshape.
Probably best not to do that at your desk/work hours; however any manager worth their salt should see that you're worried about your position and have a chat to see if everything is OK. It's a stressful time for many folk, so you won't be alone.
Don’t worry. A lot of managers are also looking at these job web sites.
