Give Your Opinion On Why Giant Eagle Has So Much Trouble Hiring New Employee’s

I honestly think they don’t want to hire new employees. I truly believe they are trying to save money by keeping the staffing levels low and getting more work out of the current employees. Just think about it. They took the hiring jobs away from the in store HR personal. This way the so called “Recruiters” can say no one has applied and what is the store supposed to do.. Horrible company Giant Eagle has turned into.

It's a revolving door at Giant Eagle. They reel the new hires in telling them they get all the hours they want with flexible work schedules and lying to them telling them it's a good place to work. We constantly hire about 6 people at a time and within two months maybe 1 person stays. The schedules are all messed up, if 1 person calls off we are screwed. They work the people that do show up to work like a dog. No appreciation. This company seems to hate long term employees, they will hand a 40 hr job to a new hire but someone that has been literally begging for full-time and has been there for years they get overlooked. It's so bad, profit over people, we employees are just a number. I worked this past Mother's Day, we were slammed of course we only had 2 cashiers scheduled and 1 person watching the front end and my customer service helper was scheduled a split shift to help the front end. We never have enough help! I asked the manager for a giftcard for each of the cashiers because they were working very hard as we were slammed with no help. He said no. I had to buy the giftcards out of my own money to show appreciation for how hard everyone was working. This is the sh-t that we deal with and they wonder why people just stop showing up for work!!

Drivers routinely make well over $100,000 dollars. Every route they deliver has an amount of time that it should be completed in. If that driver finishes under the projected time, they will still get paid the entire amount. Drivers usually get paid 20-40 plus hours of overtime weekly, while only having to work around 40 hrs per week.

“Lowest paying grocer around” unless your one of the endless amounts of executives this place has! I’ve never seen a grocery chain keep hiring executives while cutting hours in retail, whom make the money to pay these executives!

Downright a– backwards!

I dont know how long Giant Eagle has been doing things like these, but I get the feeling like the reported contract wage increase for the Cleveland warehouse and increase for drivers has helped to accelerate what is going on.
I almost want to say that it feels like I'm being targeted. Scheduling anomalies that came up recently. However it could also be that these anomalies are the result of the holidays. I guess I'll find out sooner or later.

Why hire new people when your salaried employees work 60+ hours a week and only paid for 40 hours.

Because they are a money grubbing company that believes in low wages and high profits. Just look at fiscal year 2020.. RECORD PROFITS. They made so much profit they will need to hire at least 4 more Vice Presidents to help run the company.
