Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Reshape: Who is getting ready for the week of Jan 4th?

To get the news if they are needed or not. I know its not an immediate goodbye if you are not needed, but it is going to be rough applying to a limited number of internal postings.

Ha - sometimes it does feel like we work for a non-profit unfortunately.

What’s next?

How about a moratorium on re-orgs for the next 5 - 10 years?

How about more focus on increasing profits and increasing the stock price and a bit less on digitalization, D&I, and sustainability. Yes the last 3 things are important, but it’s ALL we hear about. We don’t hear anything about making more money or getting the share price up.

We need more focus on the end game results (make money for shareholders). We spend entirely too much time and resource on the “how” (listed above) and the resulting implication is why we are here today.

North sea and N—ria are also core, imagine they will still be cut significantly, so i wouldn't rule out unconventionals being hit again

In the strategy BVB laid out Permian was considered "core" even though they lose money. I'm sure after 40%+ cut, they don't have a lot more room to cut.

I am sure there will be some strategy to this. They want to stay in key markets such as Europe, US, China and India so I am sure that they will focus in those areas. Traditional oil and gas companies had to go where the resources were located and move them to the markets. Now you figure out which market you want to be in and you can move your operation much closer to the market (unless it is something like LNG).

Not sure unconventionals will be safe, i doubt even with the reorg they are profitable, plus the impact on the environment leads me to believe they will be cut as well...but who knows until the 4th

Unconventionals should be safe since they had the Avanti re-org recently.

Any truth that deepwater is safe and won't see that many layoffs?
