Thread regarding Fossil Inc. layoffs

How harmed are you by favoritism?

Ever since I started working in this company more than six years ago, there has been favoritism, and it has become more pronounced year after year.
Others who are not in a position to be favorites must learn how to work “under the radar”. It’s so sad. At first I thought I was imagining it.
I guess it exists in other companies as well, but here it is very pronounced.
This year passed without me getting laid off but I intend to leave as soon as possible.
However, as soon as I start thinking that such an atmosphere can greet me in a new company ... I feel sick.

Let's not ignore the fact that when it was announced in 2019 of no merit increases HR employesss received promotions (automatic 10% increase). Hence resulting in managers reporting to managers....what sense does that make. Including one who came over to Corporate from working as a Fossil store associate.

Poor decision making leads to decreased morale, limited productivity, overall decline. Sorry to say, but companies...this company... needs to go back to the practice of hiring of actual QUALIFIED talent.

Let's be honest it's all of HR and the rest of Darren's direct reports. If they were worth anything then none of us would have had to take pay cuts while the executives get big bonuses.

Most Definitely runs rampant in Accounting! I can almost guarantee you the majority of these comments/posts are current and former employees from that Department! Many of the lower to mid level managers have actually openly expressed that the have HR in their back pockets...go figure!

Operations is like one big favoritism circle jerk. Good luck with that.

Favoritism runs rampant at Fossil!!
The only people that will remain will be all the “yes” people and the ones that stroke managements ego with no actual regard for making good business decisions.
I worked in FIVE different areas of business over my time and this was true across all of them.
The company means well. It’s just unfortunate there are so many lazy ignorant people in charge at all levels...well, I bet they don’t even fully understand what they are supposed to be doing...Bc you know, communication is so great within the organization. 😂
At this rate, with so few left, it’s gonna get ugly.

Do you know any of the HR people? Ask them! I even know in HR Darren favors J over all of his others, and we all know how terrible J is. Nobody likes Darren and he continues to promote and favor the least liked and least respected guy in that department. Plus, no one can deny the ego of Darren Hart - why Kosta or any of the ELT tolerate him is frustrating to me and several on my team. The amount of ego Darren has is just despicable. Even me and my team on 3 deal with favoritism to and it’s sad. Fossil used to have such great talent but they have all left. Guess favoritism comes from the top down and it’s not going to go anywhere.

It is.
What, you don’t think a pattern of poor decision making ultimately leads to layoffs?
Oh, come now.

The high school analogy was not meant to be a favorable one...so I would guess that those non-favorites would not say they "graduated" as @1wuw+18E49fJr put it ...yet, given the circumstances of how they were pushed out.... I would say they GLADLY left a toxic work environment with a significant sigh of relief.

That is what hardworkers and people dedicated to their jobs do, they keep at it and try to keep positive despite the inscescent toxic environment.

The non-favorites who were forced out in 2020 are happy to have graduated high school early. If a company wants to be successful the high school mindset of favoritism needs to be kicked to the curb- it is a breeding ground for failure. Look at those who drive results not the hot air being blown- that is how this company will turn around and make those who are left a lot happier.

Heard a couple of 'favorites' were demoted from from lower level management positions when they found out they couldn't really do the jobs they were "promoted" to do.....hmmm could it be that those non-favorites that were forced out or just simply left were the ones that actually should have been promoted.

'Learning opportunity' perhaps mid-management...🤷🏼‍♀️🤦‍♂️

Favoritism 100 percent exists at Fossil. Cliques, snubs, it’s all so ridiculously high school. The company culture of butt kissing the “it” golden boys and gals has brought us gems like VAULT (aka, how to pay a ton for software to make design, development and style setup even SLOWER) the WEDGE (we’re out of stock, isn’t that great?) New World Fossil (remember the cultish indoctrination classes?) and the flurry of excitement middle managers go through when they’ve been chosen as tribute to present to the ELT (omg pick MEEE!). Just stop. We see through it. And we’ve been polishing our resumes.

Yes it exists at other companies, but definitely not at the horrible level it exists at Fossil. I'm glad to be gone from such an environment. There are people there that probably have ONLY worked at Fossil or were 'troublemakers' at the one professional environment they did work before landing at Fossil.

The problem with the staff at Fossil is you have way too many people that turn a blind eye to such foolery because the 'favorites' lie and/or tell the powers that be what they want to see, hear & believe.

If you're a reserved, stay to yourself and do the job you were hired to do type person...then Fossil is definitely not the type of environment where you want to be or stay! Simply because it's a high school type of environment where you have adults that have yet to reach maturity personality-wise.

If you're not kissing a– at Fossil, don't expect to get recognized or promoted.

Favoritism was one of the reasons why I left the company. You’re not imagining it.
