I'm trying to cope after being laid off in the last round but it's not easy. I've been with MRO for nearly a decade and I was naive enough to think I was going to retire there. I always gave it my all and I stupidly believed that was enough to keep me safe. But I'm gone and people who everybody knows as slackers are still there. Now I'm jobless and bitter and it's really hard to move on. I hope others who were let go are doing better than I am.

I was fired, not in a round of layoff but because the company decided “to go in a different direction.”
Not gonna lie. It hurt. It took a while for me to find my current job, and I had another job in the interim that didn’t work out the way I hoped. It was a good company but not the right job for me. Nothing but gratitude and respect for those guys though.
Finding a new job that really fits is hard. Getting let go makes it harder, particularly when you feel like c-ap about being fired. I thought counseling was a bunch of made up garbage but I finally went and it helped me get over being fired, which I had internalized as a judgment on me. So there’s another thing learned courtesy of Marathon. You may want to try it too.
Have faith that this will be for the best over the longer term. With time, you can find a better job than what you left. I am now super thankful that Marathon fired me. I am at a company that is both profitable and a better fit for me. One of my best days, although it took a couple of years for me to see that.
Exxon does not expect things to get any better for Oil & Gas, ever. But, what do they know?

I hope you guys know this is just a BS post to see who responds...
I hope that you keep your head up and you’re able to find meaningful employment in the not too distant future. Think outside of the oil and gas industry for the short term. The industry will start to gain momentum in the second half of the year. Find something that you enjoy. I’m certain there was really good people let go during the layoffs and I’m sure there are some that still have a job that maybe shouldn’t. However, you can’t control that. Control what you can and don’t give up. You might just find something that you like even more.
