We are doing well enough considering the circumstances so the fact that quite a few people I know have quit in the past couple of months is somewhat confusing. Do they know something I don't? Why leave a relatively stable company when the economy is in such turmoil?

It wasn’t the company I left. It was the foreman. People don’t quit jobs, they quit managers. So yes, the grass was greener.
It depends on which team they are in. IT industry is doing great right now.
Shell shock. Most will regret it heavily when they find out the grass isn't greener elsewhere.
