Internal structure changes and slipped internal emails point to layoffs. US Palo Alto may be the target.

VM is not a service company, expect more Layoff from MAPBU. It is a sales driven company.

For my 6+ years with VMWare the last 4 were consistently punctured by layoffs at the end of FY which is end of Jan - beginning of Feb. Many of my ex-colleagues from different BUs and Corporate ended up getting an axe after 6-11 years w/Company. It had very little to do w/performance but mostly with politics which has been playing in increasing role in the company that used to pride itself to be no BS engineer focused technology driven shop. I still think VMW is a great company that can transform itself into a services company but with Pat's departure these prospects look increasingly difficult.

EUC is always a place they cut given the low growth year over year. They use those cuts to fund other higher growth areas of the business. I expect 10% at least from EUC sales

LOL, "PG said there weren't going to be any". He also said that VMware would never bow to Elliott Capital Management's demands, which they later folded like a cheap suit. Don't let the EPIC hypocrisy fool you. You can't trust the execs any further than you can throw them.

Two acquisitions (within last year) are staged for write-off. Most hires will be laid off this January. One in NSBU and one in CSBU. Both acquisitions failed to prove value. If you are in either of these BU, you will know which one. If so, early February is the target for layoffs. So, be prepared and find another team or another company especially if you are on H1B. Holiday cheers!

Well I think this year will be pretty deep compared to previous years. I think it will turn on how successful VMC has been. Clearly folks are transitioning to cloud and the incumbents there are very strong as are their architectures and operating models. The public cloud players are coming on prem too with their offerings. Margin pressure at best for VMW and share erosion and irrelevance over the windscreen at worst.

This whole bi annual layoff cycle was introduced to enable Indian management chain to get rid of non Indians. After the cycle is over, they start pitching for hiring and that is when all of a sudden you get so many Indians on the team.

It is hypocritical toxic racist culture. Glad I left Vmware but I see how my non-Indian colleagues are still being discriminated against.

The latest promotion cycle at NSBU had 89% male Indians promoted in favor of other well qualified engineers who are not Indians.

It is toxic.

VMware started bi-annual layoffs about two years ago - before that it was annually.. January won't be pretty.

Seems like VMWare does layoffs annually. It’s a form of bottom-half culling. I’d expect a 2021 layoff of some kind but unsure which BU would get hit.
