Canada Merchandising layoffs are coming in January... Happy New Year! - Love, Staples
You are all tiny cells on a spreadsheet. That's it. There is no column for hard worker, no column for loyalty, nothing for great potential. Only a number.
you will likely see a few 100 stores shuttered in 2021
Based on how sales and pms are pushing to get orders out ASAP is usually not a good sign. Especially when they advise we need to hit our numbers. Sycamore is a piece of trash and doesn’t care at all about employees. I hope they lose everything

I don't have any inside info, but I can assure you that if the numbers don't bounce back in a big way there will be more people let go. SP and Senior Managers will see it as a mathematical problem. This year may be seen as a weird one-off, but I do not think the economy and business in general will get back to the level they hoped as fast as they hoped. My best guess, watching the past several years worth of business decisions is that if the numbers look any worse by mid-Jan then there will probably be some more people let go before the formal year end in Feb. If the numbers look okay, or at least as projected when we came back from furlough (or not!) then they will give it the first quarter into next year before they make more layoff decisions.
Please, people stop believing that SP is in any way here for our greater benefit. They are a private equity firm and their sole goal is to make money. They are not really trying to build a business or a brand any farther than it takes to sell it off and make more money...usually by selling out. If they can't do that, then they will continue to whittle it down until it will not be able to succeed and they will go bankrupt.
