Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The Big Question for Management

So much talk about case for change and unsustainable cost structure to justify these layoffs yet I have seen absolutely no plan or willingness from management to reduce the amount of non value add work which is the real problem. Even when pressed in meeting management offers trite phrases such as we will own that and know we need to champion but have absolutely zero concrete plans or details for doing anything. If there is the same amount of work but fewer people to do it either schedules can increase to get things done or everyone can work longer hours every day. There isn’t some magical efficiency wand and not everything can be moved to the BTC.

Your post is the best post I've read today. "high fliers who are left are about to see just how much work us supposedly low performing dead weight employees did for them"

And, it will be unfortunate for those of us left behind who aren't the "high fliers". Say a prayer for us.

I wonder how many of you know name of this place... We all call it ExxonMobil of course. What is its real name? .... Exactly, John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company. John. D. Rockefeller.

And how proud he would be of you all tonight. Especially you @OP. Your passion for the Dividend. For is that not the sole purpose of the apparatus of the Company?

Sometimes we forget. Sometimes we fall prey to fear. But our faith in the Plan will always be rewarded. The Company tells us this situation is not dangerous. Have faith, comrades. The Company tells us it wants to prevent a panic. Listen well! It’s true, when the shareholders see a dividend cut, they will be afraid.

But it is my experience that when investors ask questions that are not in their own best interest, they should simply be told to keep their minds on their labor, and leave matters of the Company to the Company.

We seal off the Campus. No one leaves. And cut the phone lines. Contain the spread of misinformation. That is how we keep people from undermining the fruits of their own labors. Yes comrades ... we will all be rewarded for what we do here tonight.

This is our moment ... to shine.

Let's face it - we have become bloated with bureaucracy. As part of this downturn, we have massively reduced rig count and deferred capital spending - which are the two most important things we do to produce assets and replace reserves. If that reduction in program did not impact/lesson your work, then you are probably in one of those bureaucratic "do work with ourselves" positions. After Lee Raymond, we have lost our priorities, which should be to focus all efforts to put hydrocarbons in the pipeline. We are a commodity company.

There are 2 things to comprehend, accept and live with-
1- The waste at ExxonMobil of employee's time on things that do NOT add value is only outdone by the US Government! Learn lean and apply it if you want your job!
2- They have been building Technical Centers (BTC Etc) and Business Support Centers for years preparing for this point in time. They have the people, technology and facilities to replace substantially more than this round of ELIMINATION.
Please try to discontinue writing painfully stupid comments.

There is no real work to be done. To many peacocks going from one meeting to the other parading their egos!
So yes EM can live with fewer employees. Problem is they are eliminating the wrong ones!

Prior to going public with the results of the PIP, there was an effort taking place in Americas F&L called "Doing Less with Less". Groups of department heads, division managers, and regional advisors were routinely meeting to come up with plans. Many of the working documents were available on non-secure SharePoint sites, so you may find something if you search. It was an interesting theory, just not sure how it has been or will be applied. Seems like some areas wanted to have their cake and eat it too...

No they're not. They will just continue lying and cheating to look good. They will continue to promote and congratulate and reward each other and loot the company as it goes under.
