Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

You’ve got this!

If you aren’t placed in a role, my suggestion is to pick yourselves up quickly. Update your resume/cv, update your LinkedIn, set up job alerts on LinkedIn and apply for roles quickly.

Not having them updated can feel like a big hurdle and blocker to moving forward, but if you dedicate a day to it you’ll feel so much better and so much more in control.

I know these things can feel like a laborious task especially if you’ve been at BP for some time and it’s out of date. But you can honestly turn these things around in a day and once you do you’ll feel more in control of your future and therefore less stressed.

Use your recently updated MyProfiles to help. The more job specs you look at and apply for, the more tailored you can make your resume/cv. I promise, take the first step it will help you.

Take control, you can do this!

This layoff is going to feel like a huge blessing for me as soon as I get some traction with my job hunt. I stayed at BP longer than made sense for my career due to loyalty (after finally getting a good line manager) and fear. This forces me to do what I should have done 5 years ago. Scary for sure but also a little exciting.

Earlier this year they changed the font away from the typical corporate writing to a more casual handwritten font. They also told us we should use bp instead of BP. All part of the reinvention of BP.

What is the deal to emphasize lower / upper capital to bp? Employees use bp and exes use BP. Is that how it goes?

@whatevs, totally agree. I found myself correcting it back to capitals when I wrote this post :)

@anonymous, thank you - good advice.

You will have learnt a great number of things during your time at BP that will be really valuable in your future career, make sure you understand what you can and cannot talk about when you leave, don’t listen to your boss - read your severance agreement and ask a legal professional.

Really helps when you’re talking with potential employers.

You are correct, it was great to finally get this done. Also feels very nice and normal to write BP with capital letters like it should be.
