Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Laid off vs NSI - Which would you rather have?

Would y’all prefer to be part of the December involuntary leaves or be NSI’d and put on PIL/PIP in July?

Both have their pros and cons I’d imagine. Lay off you at least have some dignity since it wasn’t solely your performance, but nothing like finding out you’re losing your job during the holidays. If you been with the company for a while also you get a pretty decent package.

Getting NSI let’s you stick around for 6 more months or so and who knows the industry could improve by then or they are more lenient for people on PIP. People 2 years also get a lot of paid time compared to the lay off package. The con is obviously you forever get that needs significant improvement stigma (this is purely a mindset thing that some can get over quickly).

@1nnx+181a09lc Global Project - the group with one of the highest cut rates, I think around 25-30%.

This sums up my thinking too. I’m glad I fought for my job and prove that I shouldn’t have been NSI but I’m now looking a bit harder and following up on leads. If I get let go I’m ready and can relax for a few months if I want to. Good luck everyone!

Depends on years of service, since the package is linked to that. Also, it's a bit apples and oranges. I was PIP'd back in July and decided to fight for staying. It worked. Now I'm potentially on the chopping block for the involuntary, but I'm good with it. Between mostly unspent vacation, accruing my allotment for 2021, the package, and then the pension payout, I'd actually be in a very good position financially. I wager I could live quite comfortably for a year before even thinking of tapping into savings. I would expect to land a new job well before then, so I mostly view it as an extended vacation and then getting into something different. I know one thing for sure, and it's that I want to get the f*** out of this place as soon as possible, so this forced departure might be the catalyst I really need to ramp up the job search that's already been underway for several months.

FWIW - I was PIP'd last July and I decided to immediately resign with the three months pay. I explained what happened in detail to at least three prospective employers and it did not have any real adverse effects. I received 2 offers from the three companies I interviewed with and I was expecting a third before I notified them that I had taken another job. If you're transparent in the interview and you have a solid resume to fall back on then there isn't much to worry about. The PIP charade last summer drew a lot of eyes across the industry and outside of it. Most people saw it for what it was, a veiled layoff, and layoffs are quite common in our industry. As for which one is better, I guess my ego would have handled a true layoff a little more, but in the end they both s—. It's always great to find a job while still having a job, so if you're looking to make a move start looking now and then it doesn't matter when or if you get laid off or PIP'd.

I'm certain I won't be in the upcoming layoff.
The company paid for my nose-job - extended 4 inches - just last February.
They wouldn't have approved that investment if I didn't know where to put it.

I am in GP. Since they are cutting about 25-30% in layoffs plus 8% pip, the NSI designation next year is meaningless and imaginary. This years “good/very good”is next years NSI. But to answer your question, my strategy (if I survive lay-off) is to try to have a New job Lined up to start around August and do my best to get pipped. Then take the PIL while working at a different job. People will call me a bad Apple blah blah blah. But Exxon has demonstrated they don’t have an ounce of loyalty Or concern towards employees so why should I have any sense of loyalty to them? They don’t owe me anything and I don’t owe them anything.
