Who else is worried this might turn out to be much worse than we're expecting? Why would they need this much time to deliberate over it before they make an announcement if it's not going to be something that's going to generate a strong response? Most likely, a negative one?

It’s not just our Company. Many companies are laying off wholesale.
As an employee from early 80s, I’ve seen 3 of these, 1985/86 being most difficult, none were the Company’s fault, except for the worst moves of taking on Mobil and XTO.
Exxon has kept me on (agriculture degree only...) though them all.
ChevronTexaco, BPAmoco, ConocoPhillips have all laid off throughout these 35 years, but Exxon only 3 times.
That is why it is so SHOCKING, that it is happening now.
Reason the message is so poor from Mngt is that they are not as skilled at delivery as others that have much more frequent workforce reductions. Darren is a good Ag and we should support him and hope to one day sit in Irving!

Yes, it’s worse than we think!! Why are Geo jobs going to India? Why are Geo groups growing so quickly? It’s easier to lay-off a group by announcing there’s no work for the “group”. Quit buying all the sweet talk, you’re being setup so, don’t be surprised when the axe comes down.
Dawn onto me that Darren may want to make the announcement when reporting the bad earnings? In the attempt to clam the investment community and prevent him from being terminated..

I think some functions are going to be hit very hard versus others. But that is the nature of your job and globalization..
Likely it's taking longer in canada/usa because there are more employees and jobs here versus Europe and Australia to go through. It will be a hard hit, but the company still needs to function.
Well.. Darren Woods wants his dividends? And he has all the incentive to prolong it.. look busy and get paid a couple of million a month. Why not?
