Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Future of Oil and Gas..............

After watching the debate last night it would be easy to see how our industry is in the sights of the politicians. I just don't see how we can switch to electric in such a short time, and get away from petroleum products, I mean how does that work in such a short-time with all the cars, planes, and other transportation means out there. If we are on the way out what should the students in all the disciplines like petroleum engineering, geology, and geophysics do. I think it will end up affecting our and others stocks, and future investment for the short-term. We are already on life support and for the government to make a real effort to get away from oil and gas we are all hosed. When all these policies go in to effect oil and gas will slowly die off.

That makes no sense. If you flood the market prices will go down if there are no other factors.

I really don’t think either candidate can determine the fate of oil, the Market will decide it always does. The shale plays were hurting pre covid with the street calling in their mark and running low on good plays. Uncle Donny did us no favors cheering Saudis on to keep pumping cheap oil while onshore went upside down. Too many oil companies at the moment to sustain year over year growth but I expect consolation to rise followed by profitability as oil keeps market share new markets filled by more heavy expensive renewables but raising all boats. Profitability over growth

No candidate is perfect. So what's more important- the way they behave or their political views? I have friends on all ends of the political spectrum. Behavior is more important. Not embarrassing our country on the world stage is also important.

Anyone with any sensibility left know that it’s just a thing people say who are not grounded in facts and reality. So Dems/libs keep making false claims and Reps probably don’t understand or just use it to fool people getting affected on sentiments.

How was the Starship Enterprise powered? We should be using that form of energy.

The reality is that the Oil industry is dying. Acting like things are going to be hunky dory is akin to the "clean coal" concept. Eventually, commodities as a sole source reach a sell by date.

No one is saying that the US can switch away from Oil and Gas tomorrow. But that doesn't mean we need to keep propping up and industry that will continue to become less and less relevant as technology gets better.

Just look at how much capital was burned in the shale plays. Never made sense, still don't make sense, but somehow this is a growing thriving industry?

People are naive to think America can completely do away with oil and gas.
