Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Best Place to Work? Not any more.

I've worked for Hy-Vee for more than 25 years. Our current leadership has a vision of being the best place to work. Working for this company was at one time fun and rewarding. Now it's just exhausting and frustrating. We were once a family oriented company with a decent work/life balance for a retail environment. Sadly it's no longer so. Full timers are now expected to to take on roles that in the past were the workload of 2 or even 3 associates. You are expected to work beyond the end of your shift therefore degrading the work/life balance in favor of the company. It's all about corporate now. We used to be the best place to work but now there is much better out there. Corporate officers...please work to restore our work/life balance or our HUGE retention problem will only worsen. If you are a young person considering a career with Hy-Vee, take a look at what is happening in your store. And then take a good look outside the company at what is available for you if you want to have a life outside of work.

Hy vee was so much stronger when we were more of a confederacy, there were less pushes, less merch showing up on my floor that I have to sell even though I never ordered it and now had to pay for it. There is still time, boot this jerk out! How are we going through this again after all the money we made in the pandemic? Employees, either unite or gtfo!

Worked for this company over 20 years. I’m going to make this crystal clear: Randy has got to go. Will the board just let the ship sink so he can stay afloat? Not only will they do that, they’ll stab each other in the face to see who can kiss his a-s the most while keeping him elevated and letting the employees sink. Hy-Vee brags about being employee owned, but why don’t employees get to make more decisions? You guys better dig up Rick or Ron and get this thing moving if any stores are going to be open in five years. And if you think I’m wrong, think about how much more money each store would have at this point if you weren’t forced to have a market grill in your store..that was 8 years ago, and you still can’t admit it fu---d up everything. That will be his legacy. The good news folks: there are a lot of jobs out there willing to pay you more for a lot less stress. Not having to find your own closers each night, going home on time, getting days off that you wanted, not working every god damned weekend, seeing your child’s activities on weekends.. I found a job that does that, no customers, pays 30% more than I was making at the Vee. You can too. Look outside the food service industry.

We are coming up on a year when Hyvee started FIRING AND GETTING RID OF LONG TERM EMPLOYEES to save labor dollars, not to mention cutting everyone's wages.I wonder what's going to happen this March.Be prepared the trust has evaporated in this company.Think twice before making this a career especially when they mess with your wages every couple years AND I DONT MEAN GIVING YOU A RAISE BECAUSE THAT DOESNT HAPPEN ANY LONGER.

Dirty, poor food safety practices, lack of communication, management not taking COVID mask wearing seriously, managers belittling employees, not enough help, ridiculous expectations, I could go on and on.... so glad to be out! Certainly is not the best place to work!

Took on at least 2 other tasks daily, working hard constantly that I hardly even have time to take a break, sometimes it’s so busy I can’t take a break. I can’t wait for the day when I can just quit this place

You are so so right. The Autonomy is definitely GONE.ITS ALL CORPORATE AND CORPORATE GREED.Anyone looking to make a career with this company better think twice. The work family balance at store level and even in the office is terrible.

I totally agree. I always had good sales and good gross. But they would always make a reason how it could even be better. Took my help away from me. I ended up running my department almost with no help.
