In 2019, layoffs occured on Tuesday Oct 22 and Q3 results were Thursday Oct 24. This year, Q3 results are Thursday Oct 29, which makes Termination Tuesday Oct 27.

layoffs started today!!! A friend just got laid off this morning and many more husky employees were let go!! Termination Tuesday. Hope we can make the cuts

This time last year we were announcing $100MM less in spending for 2020 and 370 jobs had been cut. Since then spending has gone from $3.2B down to $1.6B just for 2020.... even with the contractors gone there has to be some major changes around the corner.
They will most likely announce in Qtr results that there will be spending cuts. As far as where, that’s a speculation we don’t know. So most likely November is the month of implementing all of that.
I mean... south China sea most recent completion was ahead of schedule and under budget. NA projects are largely "on time" for a delayed schedule and "on budget" assuming nobody actually looks. I know where I would invest billions

There is a lot of talk but no one Director level or above has shared any information with anyone below that I have heard. Next Tuesday seems logical and cuts to permanent are to be expected just like all of our peers are doing. The stress level is the office is rising and it is starting to distract some people. I am assuming Western Canada exploration and heavy oil projects has to shrink as they have stopped so much work.
All bs... there haven't been major layoffs since spending was slashed. Yes most of the contractors are gone but to keep inline with spending will require cuts to staff in the head office. The good/bad news is you can't do anything about it if someone wants you gone so just keep your head down till they call you.
Its always either next Tuesday or the one after that and so on. There is never anything you can do anyway. Get control of your finances and don't live your life in fear.

So if you want some tips on how to get through this...
1- Take all of your vacation now. If like me last year, secure work elsewhere before returning to the office.
Trust me, this is what I did before returning to the last July. Clear your desk as well.
2 - accept the layoff and package.
3 - after a well rested 5 week ‘vacation’ start your new role knowing that you you have a better job and we’re also let go.
I wasn’t a popular manager by any stretch of the imagination but I also wasn’t naive as some people are.
