Whatever the initial target number, there will be an assumption about attrition and retirements over the next several years. If attrition numbers do not meet expectations then more cuts will come. I think an overall reduction on US staffing of 40% within 3-5 years likely. How soon and how it will reach those levels who knows.

@fcy - I thought most of IT had already moved to India ...
Technical and management will be reduced, xom will look nothing like it used to be, old, gutted, nepotism, incompetent bootlickers and children of high up VPs and managers now will be running the show
IT is too expensive - it will be reduced by moving things to India. Big time. 20% will look like nothing when all is done.
20% is just a starting point. As more engineering functions are transferred to India, Technical will be reduced by 50% over the next two years.
I think USA will be more. It's too bloated.
20% is about right
20% of Europe is being let go and they are much leaner than USA.
