Thread regarding CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield layoffs

October 2020 Layoffs Status

So there are some layoffs happening on the business side; especially Operations. Confirmed at least 5 people last Thursday and rumor is more this Thursday. Actually this is not a surprise as the business side was not as impacted as IT in the initial few layoff rounds beginning in 2019. These were supposedly already planned before COVID-19 arrived. Prayers out to anyone impacted. I hope the numbers remain low on the people impacted. Although 1 is too many in my mind with so much work being planned.

There are more layoffs coming but they may be cloaked in other activities like outsourcing. Prolly wont happen til next year but you never know with this group. Rumor is anyone in a testing role will be outsourced to Deloitte probably.

This is sad. Fishy even??? How many other people were let go?!? Is there more to come?! Hopefully not.

Many people are now jobless (and may be w/o health care) in the midst of national turmoil and a pandemic, while the execs sit back and collect their millions. Thanks CF -______-

Right before Open Season for government employees?? Not a good move. They may be looking elsewhere and not feeling confident with CareFirst.

43+ folks are jobless during the holidays and during national pandemic.

Amazing really hoping life has full turn.

I saw yesterday's post and they were pretty rough to say the least. CareFirst a Healthcare company is letting folks go in mist of a pandemic and holidays. Good job management real piece of work dip sh!t brain.

I was in IT and after over 15 years at CareFirst I was laid off today. Not a lot of reason and some generic scripts they ran through. I heard there were dozens let go from IT this week.

Layoffs are happening. Started last week> Yesterday the Claims Ops was hit and today IT is being impacted. Not sure of any numbers. 1 in my mind is too many when we have some much work. Seems as if they are targeting tenured employees with over 25+ years. Guess they will not have to fund their pensions further. Sure smells like age discrimination but that is almost impossible to prove when you hide it under the disguise of a reorganization.

Expect more for the business and IT. Operations consolidating means more layoffs as this area had grown in multiple areas before being consolidated. It’s sad, but necessary for CF to hit it’s PMPM cost reductions. IT delayed another lay-off multiple times this year, but it will still come at some point. CF is sprinkling these out to avoid media attention. Additionally if they do a large lay-off they have to give the state notice. So this could be going around that.
