Will there be more layoffs or are we done?

You’re wrong again! Every company does not exercise endless jobs cuts, and lose market expansion. Cummins has been drowning in that arena for several years! Cutting costs agenda is not saving them!
Why the emotion it's no personal. Obviously it's sad to see people getting cut and lossing jobs and all. But instead of just saying this is bad that is bad we should look at ourselves rather than pointing the finger. cummins or not, every company is doing the same thing so let's no drag family's and emotion know this conversation.
Just wanted to chime in: at last check, the company is hemorrhaging record profits in the history of CMI. The profits you claim, where is the market growth as opposed to the global losses? Same condition for several years. Any company growing in profitability, would be expanding their market footprint; not shrinking production and presence. Your comments are disgraceful to everyone on this post who lost their careers by endless cost cutting failures.
Huh? What did I just read. What talent??? Huh.. we talking like all these actions taken did not increase profits years over years. Confused brooooo.. if it's talent that drive business and you claim we lost talent why is the company still making money??? Hmmmm
I interviewed several HCL IT candidates submitted to me for open positions on my team. I routinely found inflated resumes. I asked direct questions based on their resumes, only to hear them tell me incorrect answers. Yet, fully qualified and proven track record employees were dismissed in favor of cutting costs. The competition you describe is in lower costs; not competition in higher talent. Many of the offshore candidates were bagging groceries yesterday, applied to HCL today and working at Cummins tomorrow. Cost, talent, quality of product, and customer satisfaction all suffered. Competition in talent is what drives business.
Can't blame them. End of the day the numbers are the numbers and Cummins is like any corporation to make profits, not a charity. We can always look at two views, you can call it cheap labour on one end and the other end or you can call it entitled overpaid worker not willing to take salary cut. This is a competitive market and world. Plain simple
You must be one of the outsourced IT recipients. Make your statement to the Disney World personnel in Florida. Back in 2013, US personnel were all replaced by HCL America. This offshore Indian company was brought in to replace every American IT personnel on-site. In fact, the American IT personnel, who all held their positions for several years, were all advised that if they didn’t train their replacements that they would not receive their severance packages.
Disney replaced American IT personnel with non-citizens. In fact, HCL America still had operations in that location. Those Americans who long held IT careers were forced out.
Do your research!
Outsourcing, at least in IT, has helped Cummins to be better. There are too many American IT managers without proper technical understanding and they just rely on contractors. Capable American IT professionals left Cummins long time ago.
I’ve known many others who went thru that as well. However, it was mostly direct outsourcing our jobs to offshore, some were onshore contracts. Same dynamic: marginal salaries, no benefits, contract etc.
Cummins business model has long been: more with less. I experienced 7 RIFS. Cummins is all about cutting costs. They will outsource your job without notice. They’ve held HCL America in-house for over 15 years, an Indian IT Staffing firm, shipping our jobs offshore, or them supplying onshore contracts.
Myself and several others were dismissed from Cummins a few months ago; downsizing, restructuring, pandemic: politics. Since then, my phone has been blowing up from IT Recruiters wanting to place me for opportunities, at the same site I was removed, on contract, fraction of my original salary and with no benefits. In addition, it was non-citizen IT Recruiters and non-citizen hiring managers from Cummins.
Even at CTC work has been slowing down. Hell they have but the kybosh on overtime. I used to work in Charleston and I heard from some friends that work is slowing there also.
Cummins Georgia closed... cummins Roanoke in Virginia lost more employees and are down to like 20 in the whole building, When early 2002 it had more then 120 employees there, it is happening people who worked for cummins for over 20 to 30 years before it became cummins corporate are losing there job, not for lack there of... or job performance they get handed a severance package and are escorted out the building... all who say cummins is a great company must not have worked long night away from family to help customers and cummins to be escorted out of the building, most people won’t remember the 20 or 30 years of employment there remember the last 15 minutes of there career how they where treated... I was there close to 38 years and was handed my severance the first go around... in the end I have nothing nice to say to about a Cummins
Cummins is highly political. I witnessed several people who reported to me later advance above me cause of their click. Poetic justice is that both they and their click were all eventually dismissed. Many of the cuts, downsizing, restructuring, or advancements all hinge on internal politics regardless of your performance.
Western Canada lost a bunch of people this week, I'm not sure about numbers. I had heard rumour it was going to happen but was never told officially. Those of us that survived the Valentine's m—acre here are now stressing about losing our jobs before Christmas. I wish I had never joined this company.
Dbu has been laying off all week.
I'll keep drinking the kool-aid sure. Getting paid and rewarded. I'll let you know if things change but CMI is the best I work over 25 years.
Sad to hear an employee devote loyalty and faith in a company, or cling to a corporate announcement, given the lengthy trail of evidence of a company who has routinely betrayed its employees.
Battle cry of another eventual next up.
Keep drinking the Cummins Kool-Aid! It was never announced to me nor my colleagues. Data driven announcements, new internal job opportunities, etc. is all smoke and mirrors. You are on the front row!
It may not be a formal RIF with an announcement but every year doe the last 11 there’s either been RIF toward end of the year or the horrible redeploy where you are told you don’t have a job anymore sometimes protect ending or team getting h cut and you have x number of days to find a new job or will be exited with severance. So for anyone to say there will be no actions in Q4 is not a data based projection. I’m sure if major actions are planned it will be announced on the earnings call on the 27th as it was in 2019.
I as well know of several at a service location today
Not fake news. I know of at least a dozen walked out this week so far
I was one of the 2,500 dismissed in the 1st quarter of this year, before the virus epidemic.
Economy was good, corporate profits strong, and walked into the office like any other day.
HR was onsite, dismissed not only myself but several others. Most all of us had scored 1 and a few others scored 2 on our performance reviews. An entire department was wiped out; non-performance issues, nor sales decline or profit loss. I later found out that my role was outsourced offshore for half of my salary with no benefits. Likewise, I talked with some others who were let go by no fault, and learned too their replacements were either offshore outsourcing, or onshore contracts, with marginal salaries. Cummins profits were high, and we were at a loss in the surprise visit from HR. Cummins always pivots for less compensation and benefits regardless of the economy.
Plus. People like you take things at face value. Last year is all time high for Cummins so any loss will be biggest lost. Bottom line is we still made profit and more than last few RIF cycles. I will say not just do research but understand he baseline and don't jump to conclusion
Not true. Sure they lost profit but they are still earning money. I guarantee no RIF will happen. All fake news trying to create fear
Do your research! Cummins suffered the worst profit loss in the 2nd and 3rd quarter of this year ever in the history of the company! Of course they’re downsizing and restructuring in the 4th quarter. I’ve witnessed 4 RIFS when the economy was good! They were hiring in each one, as they showed people the door. Most of those hired for replacements were either offshore outsourcing, or contracts with additional non-citizens. You’re never safe! Keep drinking the Cummins Kool-Aid if you think otherwise, or simply ask yourself, who held the job before you and why/how/when did they vacate.
No one. Because its fake news. No RIF and layoffs. There are 15 new job postings everyday
Who has been affected thus far?
We were notified today that several more cuts are continuing this month within the IT departments. Continual off-shoring of our jobs.
More happening this week, maybe for the rest of the month. But share dividend increased...
Last week caught me by surprise, I'd like to avoid that if there's going to be more.
