Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

How could chip supply impact future layoffs?

Qualcomm only has 2 businesses that make money (qct and qtl). No other business is turning a profit. For someone to think that any other business is safe must be a troll. Also is Qualcomm does not provide chips to apple or Huawei in the future there will be major layoffs...

Couldn't agree more, @2nty+17pXIfy3. Company derives most of its revenue from chipmaking. Not providing chips could bring us a lot of troubles.

You don’t seem to understand Qualcomm’s business model. Do you know how many business units have went under at Qualcomm the last 10 years? Have you heard of marisol? Have you heard of Qualcomm TV? Just to name a few - when Qualcomm has layoffs massive amounts of people are let go! Whole business units are let go. When QCT starts having cuts things are real bad. It saddening how engineers have no business sense of maybe I should say Qualcomm engineers - maybe that’s why Silicon Valley does not view long term engineers at Qualcomm as first rate or business savvy

Lmao, did Qualcomm clean house that bad in 2016 that only few people were there? How many were laid off?

This post remind me of 2016. A bunch of people were saying how wonderful Qualcomm was and how great the company was doing. Then November hit and there was only a few people left walking in the halls. Engineers don’t understand financial numbers

Qtl is licensing .... just in case you are unaware of that.... it has only been all over the news internationally that qtl is over changing and has been the subject of multiple bad faith lawsuits

Actually, licensing is a major revenue stream and arguably the most profitable.

Really? But I heated that QCA is actively hiring and one of my friend even invited me to apply, is this a troll or a joke?

The sad part is most engineers don’t bother to understand the business side. Many engineers mistake movement for progress. You can make the best product in the world but if no one buys it the business won’t last. It’s depressing to know Qualcomm hasn’t invented a new business in over 15 years that can make money.
