Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

All show and no go...

I used to hate coming to the office on Halloween because of that. Is there another O&G company’s EC that actually does that??? My previous employer didn’t have all these nonsense. Spending hours to give out candies? Do they even know how much they are paid hourly? And the whole team? How about going back to the 31st floor to work and make wise business decisions? We don’t need COOOOL management team. We need a smart one.

I hope you don't mind me copying your post and opening a new thread, @1lyp+17pvGqT4. Straight to the point! Management is busy making childish shows to make everything seem to look alright. I wonder if they will finally start making smart moves we need more than ever? Do they actually have any smart ideas?

Oil company people are indeed spoiled. That will not last too much longer when the hammer comes down later this year.

@1aou Nobody is saying that having some fun on Halloween day is uncommon or unreasonable. The criticism is on the upper management spending HOURS handing out candies. They can wear their costumes all day if they like, but remember their jobs at the office.

Pretending to be something you are not (maybe a competent CEO) and passing out candy (maybe $1 billion to a competitor) seems to come naturally to VH. Now that is scary.

They're training sessions! Employees will need those candy passing skills when they start working at Walmart.

How did arm wrestling raise money for MS? In the future why not skip wasted work time for these events and donate the money anyway.

And you had the audacity to do it again last October after the most ridiculous colossal f-up of all time - the APC acquisition which had already destroyed tens of billions of value. And you hand out candy! Did you not know how many employees were cursing you under their breath? So clueless. At least you hid your faces with masks!

Gee everyone on this thread needs to pull the stick out of their butt, Arm wrestling and go cart racing were events related to raising money for the MS Society and almost everyother company does something for Halloween. Sorry these events trigger all you old farts, you do realize you aren't required to stay?

There are better ways to go about creating a company culture where employees are valued, and it doesn’t involve pumping fists and dressing up. Its about create a healthy organizational structure and stream-lining. The lack of enthusiasm during that arm wrestling Contest you’d think be a good indication of issues, but when you’re living off of a short-term high, such things are dismissed. Instead they bought APC.

Did you see the arm wrestling contest a few years back? If it was before your time please ask someone about that. All of this fun is designed to 1) impress the young people and 2) see who goes along with it. I would think a crawfish boil with beer would be more effective. That is more like the old company way. Nice and easy.
