Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

Baby on the way

I just bought a house and have a baby in the way and now have no job. What k–ls me is my boss knew I was buying a house and had no decency to tell me I was being let go shortly. I have been dropping resumes like crazy and interviewing... but I will never look at companies the same...

I hope NG can take a few contracts away from GA. NG is at least military friendly

2017 and 2018 the company hired large amounts of people to work on their mq-25 project. I never forgot how management spoke as if it was guaranteed to be rewarded to GA. I was at work when the DOD announced Boeing won the contract. People acted like the military betrayed the company and there was/is this belief that GA owns the right to produce UAVs exclusively for the US Gov. about January 2019 i remember production slow down significantly, i use to be busy my entire shift and towards the end i was always actively trying to find something to do for 8 hours. Its kinda sad but what can you expect from a company that as been so mismanaged over the years. They took things for granted and look what it got them, a bruised reputation with its laid off workers and a continued exodus of workers unhappy with the path the owners are taking as a company. Tragedy

What doesn’t make sense is why did management keep hiring? Management kept Ed hiring with no work in the pipeline. Management made layoffs worst than what it had to be. People leave GA like crazy! GA has one of the highest turnover rates I have ever seen - so if management wasn’t so incompetent layoffs would not have been necessary

i believe C. Pehrson that made that statement in the Air force Magazine? but In my 22 years of working at GA i have never heard the Blues brothers mention layoffs they normally used their appointed men/women to speak on those matters, but i may be wrong.

In all fairness one of the Blue Brothers gave an interview in March and stated layoffs were going to happen if GA was unable to find a replacement for AF cancelled orders... and at the same time GA kept hiring.. talk about mixed singles... if current managers can’t even manage payroll... maybe more management should have been let go.

i was recently hired by NG and my drive to work will be around an hour and a half. despite that I'm still very grateful that i was able to land a job within two weeks of getting laid off, as for people not being able to say anything about the layoff, i know in my department supervisors told a few co-workers who knew the exact numbers of people being laid off and were actively spreading what i thought were rumors, this was back in May. so if a NDA was signed there were certain people who should not have been in the Know, opening their mouth about the layoffs that were going to happen.

You boss probably signed a NDA agreement and couldn't say anything to anyone. That's how the corporations play the games. Even if you manager wanted to tell you, he just couldn't because they would sue him or cut his severance or whatever. If you were in your managers position, perhaps you wouldn't have said anything due to all the legal issues that come with NDA agreement.
Best thing to do, is to apply to as many companies as you can through their website. Connect to people on linkedin and recruiters. But be careful of recruiters - they need to make money also. Best way to get a job is through connections. Even if you haven't spoken to someone for 10 years, just tell them you want to reconnect and was wondering if they can pass on your resume to the hiring manager and HR. Don't give up, keep at it. It gets frustrating and depressing when you don't hear back after an interview. But don't give up. There are over 30 million people just like you looking for a job right now. And don't limit yourself to just where you live. You may need to look out of state or drive 2 hours one way for a job. You have to do what you have to do to survive in these tough times. Best of luck!

I started applying the same day I was let go. I have interviewed with 6 companies. 3 have gone to the second phase. To be honest I was lucky to only have worked at GA for a little time. I will be honest, even if it sound harsh... if you were at GA over 5 years many companies will not look highly on ones skill set. Many GA employees have failed in other places only to go back to GA. During interview I actually say “the company is stagnant and does not embrace change - so I am looking for a place where I can grow and stay up to date with leading technology and processes” 6 out of 6 have said yeah we are aware of that at GA... but for people who where there over 5 years don’t use that line... they will ask you how come you stayed in a place so long where you weren’t learning anything... hope this helps

How are you getting to the interviews? I have been submitting my resume but no bites yet. Is there something special you are doing with your resume?

I have a coworker who caught Covid and was let go while he was in the hospital recovering... So I have seen GA act in a manner that caused me to give notice. I didn’t bother to give 2 weeks as they didn’t give any of my ex coworkers 2 weeks advance notice
