With XOM and CVX merger talks, are there chances oxy will merge with other similar or bigger companies during 2021?

NO
No such luck. COP+CXO Too bad for you
Not happening. Makes zero sense financially for anyone. Delete this thread.

Is it just coincidence?
Merge or not highly dependent on future oil price, particularly the 2nd half of 2021 and first half of 2022,
Cop Oxy merger would be good if the Oxy balance sheet wasn’t so horrible.
ConociPhillips and OXY to form CPO Petroleum
Why would the company have to pay vcp’s or vsp’s?
Oxy is a POS company and nobody in their right mind would go near it
Trim the fat VH and get the G&A down to survival levels
Spend the money now on VCP's to save the company
I believe the term OP is looking for is “buyout”
XOM Cvx merger may not pass anti-trust regulations without sell off of some downstream.
There are no XOM-CVX merger talks. Some analyst said they should merge but the government would not allow it.
the way I envision a merger with Oxy is exactly like this: Titanic approaching the iceberg! Expect the end
Why would anyone in their right mind go near Oxy?
A merger between the two biggest? Doubtful. At current prices, size doesn't matter. It's all about who survives and both of them will. The reality is that they'd rather eat the dying corpses of everybody else. Oxy, as a whole, will not be gobbled up, but we may have an arm or a leg that XOM / CVX / other is interested in.
Eventually, we'll be down to whatever is deemed as our core asset base with still an ungodly amount of debt. Our only hope for survival is for higher prices and a return to activity.
Oxy isn't a target for anyone because of their upside down financial status. They would rather wait for a chance at the fire sale as directed by Ichan.
