Thread regarding Cox Automotive layoffs

Can something be done about this?

I saw a whole team get laid off in the last few months to have most of the same jobs posted again with slightly different titles. Very frustrating. Seems to be most people impacted were 10+ years with the pensions.

Is this true? Is there any legal action that can be taken on their behalf?

Reminds me of when dealertrack was acquired. I worked for dealer track for several years before the cox acquisition, was lucky to be one of the ones who made it through all the dealer track people being let go. Luckily with my tenure and performance record I made it. Just glad I was able to move and get my retirement house set up before I actually got laid off this time. Ive never been laid off or fired from a job in my life and have always had impeccable performance. Cox doesn't care about that. Even as a sr dir. they kept us in the dark also. I made sure to let my boss know how I felt about it all though. thats for sure.

Anyone who can show me a “new” ground breaking idea or product cox has come up with in the last 5 years you get a cookie. Nothing is original. They bought everything or copied everything, they didn’t innovate sh–. That’s why they failed horribly at “integrating” because they then ran those products and teams into the ground . No secrets there.

The "new" ideas and "new" talent are recycled "talent" from other failed competitors or people that use the right buzz words but have nothing to show in terms of accomplishments at Cox

I highly doubt that Cox would sell Cox Auto. Maybe a part here and there (Autotrader or KBB).
The division is highly profitable for the Cox family

Thats a lovely thought below, wouldn't it be nice if companies gave things like severance out of the goodness of their hearts? "Here, here's a couple months pay because we dont like you and you s—, but we are nice people that care about you, but make sure you sign this agreement on your way out".... said no company EVER. But thats utter BS. If that was the case they could move the person to a different role that would fit better. They wouldn't keep the same tired VPs, and SVPs, recycling old ideas into new ideas. And why does someone need to find a new a job every 2-4 years? If thats a company policy or recommendation they need to make that available to people, and they need to publicize that and make people aware, so that can be accomplished by employees. Again utter BS. ALL companies give severance packages for one reason and one reason only. So they dont get sued. End of story. You think otherwise, youre a fool. Nice try though, and lovely thought. Just doesn't work that way.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe people were laid off because the company didn't think they were good enough and gave them severance instead of firing them? Company does need new ideas and new approaches... Too stale. "principle" or "lead"... Point is they needed someone new with new ideas. Just move on.. lots of companies are looking for fresh talent... Lots of people are being laid off at companies for the same reasons as Cox. Just cause Cox doesn't like you doesn't mean your ideas aren't needed at another company. Gosh, expand your horizons and skillet. You shouldnt be staying at a same position for more than 2-4 years anyway for your own good

None of it will matter soon enough anyway. It’s felt for a long time they’re positioning themselves to be acquired by amazon or someone else, so once that happens a lot of people will be shoved out anyway. Why you think they could care less what clients they piss off? Soon enough the clients won’t be clients. They’ll be competitors.

its true, it was my team. Job postings up now using the word "Principal" instead of Senior or some slightly different "requirements" listed in the descriptions. The "requirements" are a joke because the company/dept doesn't even use a lot of the programs, software, etc.. that are "required"

After almost 17 years I was axed last month. Agree with many statements made here. I was p-ss-d, then sad & then I became aware that I was so miserable there that I didn't even realize it. I'm so much happier, sleeping better, my health is better. My former teammates have reached out to me & we are still friends & get together. But the management can pound sand!

agree with below, I was laid off after 12 years of loyal hard work, rug swept out from under me. now that im gone, and away from this company, I couldn't be happier. I look back and it was the worst period of time in my life working for this company. they have a weird way of making you think they care, when they really dont, it works to keep people loyal, and think there is nothing better out there. I was p-ss-d off, then sad, then scared, now its turned into the most happiness ive had in a long time. never want to look back. burning bridges? meh. have no plans to ever be employed by cox again. ever. I want nothing to do with the chaos.

Can something be done? Sure...

Continue to bring awareness to their shady practices. Legally no. Thats why they change the title.
Continue to post on this site that is running rampant around the company. I still work for the company and so many people have asked if ive heard of this site. Of course I say no. But keep posting, keep exposing their BS. Treat them with the respect and honesty they give you. Which is just about none. Take and get as much as you can out of them if still employed, move on and be happy you dont have to deal with the chaos if youre gone.

Agree 100%! They don’t want you to be in contact with any of your friends! They instill FEAR in them just for being in touch. Dehumanizing since you already got “the boot” - WTF? Never heard of such bs in my life!

Georgia is a 'right to work' state so there are few avenues to sue for wrongful dismissal.

Here is my .02... I got booted from Cox last year. I had over 20 years in. My biggest surprise was getting abandoned by my work friends. Almost like HR said they couldn't call me (?). That was the worst part. A year+ later, my advice to everyone going thru this now is just move on. Don't burn bridges, always say good things about your time there and move on. Being bitter will only hurt you.
For qualified people, there are tons of other jobs at better companies.
