Layoffs are the only constant at UHG. You can rest assured every year there will be fairly large layoffs in December. Out of my 20+ years with the company, I'd say for the past 5 there have been layoffs every December just to rehire the positions out of the Philippines the following year.

Earnings were fine but the keep raising expectations to keep the stock moving. Then try to cut their way after seeing how the next few months go. I would expect Dec layoffs and maybe Jan prior to bonus.
The corporation was a microcosm of the us
Optum has no heart.
Optum is the psychopath of healthcare, incapable of empathy.
Actually they dropped to Fortune #7 this year.
Layoffs this year will depend on the quarterly results coming out on October 14th. With many of UNH customers, laying off employees due to pandemic and loss of business, UNH/Optum will be effected for sure as they will lose members.
With many smaller insurance firms jumping into the mix, UNH will face challenges next year too. Sadly, the quickest way for them to cut costs is to cut number of employees.
The amount of reports that have us doing is unreal. Endless, lots of urgency with little explanation, blank stares. Be warned. They do not care about the employees at all. It's all about money and shareholder profits.
Take nature walks, read books, get rid of the teevee, limit phone use, and stay as little as possible at that "health" corporation-it was toxic like the US. It was this way since its founding-a huge mistake as Freud said. Profits over people, cogs in the wheel of the owners and the partners. Corporate usa. cesspool.
It was a perpetual motion machine. A noise machine. Shadow boxing-a show abt nothing. Profitting off of sick and the infirm was their "business" model. And as an employee, we're just hamster wheelers at will.
Talking about simplification.
Step 1. Start with rationalizing the 30(+) Grades while making sure consistency in Grade & pay for similar work across the enterprise and its divisions.
This will help clean the system inside out.
They’re already strategizing for Q1, lots of reporting asks, requests for staffing justifications, and requests for ideas about how we can simplify things.
It’s exhausting. Sprint for 1/1 deliverables and then cut in February.
This company only cares about profits. If they can make their department numbers look better by eliminating a handful of people, they will, without a second thought. This will happen right after busy season. Expect a big wave of layoffs before Q1 2021 ends. They will use you, abuse you, and then discard you. There is a reason that they are #6 on the Fortune 500 list. Only the head honchos profit. The rest of us are expendable worker bees.
There never is a final wave. There will be many more layoffs in 2021 due to the extreme environment the company will face next year.
