People need to look further into the University of Delaware. There is a lot they are not telling people and a lot they are lying about and hiding. Like how the president goes on lavish vacations at the university's expense (not to mention the mansion he lives in for free with automobiles, and cleaning service and personal chefs and let us not forget the 2 (yes two) $100,000 kitchen remodels within three years. All of this is being charged to the University. They have been mismanaging finances for years, Assanis is just very lucky that Covid came along and became a plausible cop out. The university had been asking departments to cut back in 2019. They were told there was a budget problem a year before covid 19 existed.
I get that people don't understand how university finances work, but I assure you, they are lying. Hiring hundreds of new faculty (and please keep in mind what faculty typically earn) and many of them have startup funds (basically a sign on bonus) in the $100,000 range. What courses were these people brought on to teach? UD didn't add that many courses, so why did they need so many faculty? Oh because their model is/was - if we hire a bunch of faculty that we don't need and create classes that aren't necessary it will bring students. That is some seriously faulty logic, if you ask me. Yet, all of these people are protected by their union agreement (and don't get me wrong, I am not anti- union, so good for them by protecting themselves). So now the university has no one else to go after except the lowest paid workers. And Assanis won't be held accountable, because UD's finances and operations are top secret. (I guess I won't go into how they stand to benefit a lot of already wealthy people in this small state- you can figure that out yourselves).
