Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Has anyone seen the all new shiny private cloud offering? I mean hpc zombie returned from the dead.

Would really like someone, anyone, try to explain the differentiation SG brings to what is essentially an out of the box solution from Dell.

Are we back to trying to secure 30% margin on someone else’s service offerings again !

Oh wait. Colo of course. We host it in 1/2 of a 42u cab in one of our datacentres right.

Silly me.

@fugi+17iEtXpI. They've tried this with AWS and the 50% markup.
Just take a look at the Wednesday Wins to see how many deals are coming in!

Dell are going to sell it to Sungard customers. Dell will manage the environment and any wraparound managed services. Dell will migrate the customer onto the platform.

Sungard will contract with the customer, pay upfront for the hardware and recoup costs over the contract term hoping to make a 30% uplift.

There you go. Innovation at work.

Ok great a new cloud product. But wait who’s going to sell it? From what I hear sales is a train wreck right now.

Hey.did we not just announce some groundbreaking news about cloud connectivity via megaport ?

Isn’t that nice and new to match the shiny new VxRail HCI stack from Dell.

Wait a minute. Didn’t we do that 8 yrs ago with Equinix and their Cloud Exchange offering ?

I think we did didn’t we and it went nowhere didn’t it !

Never known SGAS to ever produce a 100% turnkey product

Do you mean the HCI package that is is three months late and not yet ready for an actual customer? Yet product is forcing sales to start selling.
Product promised Operations it would be 100% turnkey and Ops was required. Guess what reality is?

ECS was the only good thing that came out of product, it worked, it sold it was profitable. Then the realms of CTOs and Sgt. Bilko got friends with CloudStack then OpenStack.... end of the day HPC is walking dead why would you do this and not go AzureStack or Outpost then Public with AWS, Azure or Google... which dinosaur is at the top making these decisions...

@3bod+17iEtXpI

let's pay dell to run a service that nobody is running on

That's not unfamiliar territory for Sungard. Spend $$$$ on an environment to have it sit barely used.

PUBLIC CLOUD! PRIVATE CLOUD! HYBRID CLOUD! CLOUD CLOUD CLOUD! OR SOMETHING!

WAIT WHERE ARE YOU GOING?? COME BACK!!

Its just Dell VXrail system that dell is running and managing. Sungard provides little to no value to the customer since Dell will be in charge of the managed service. Odd time to roll out a new product. What customer is going to want to sign up for a new service and implement in the 4Q? none. So let's pay dell to run a service that nobody is running on. Any interested customer will probably tell the sales team to contact them in January to take a look at it, if they are interested. The 30 a month is laughable. Why this cloud versus all the others out there? Sorry, I heard that with AWS and HPC that this will change the industry and we will have so many customers. None materialized. I just don't see why a customer would choose Sungard's cloud service over someone else's. What value or revolutionary technology is being introduced here that customers will say I must have that and leave AWS, Azure, or other managed cloud providers? Unless we are going to sell it so cheap, which Sungard never has. What market research or data do they have to back up all this investment?

Cloudstack, Openstack (ECS2), HPC and now this!
How many millions wasted??
ECS was the only 'cloud' offering that ever made a profit so why did they not build on that?
Product and their new toys and buzzwords. :-(

The projection was for 30 deals a month from these new services. I think we are on track for 3 per month. Only a factor of 10 miss.
