They need to do an old fashioned lay-off where they rank based on function, skill base, and performance. Then choose a number to be cut and cut. It is so simple. These days they can skip the outplacement center benefits since we have the internet now. It is an insult to stockholders and the lean core of the company to have such bloat.

I work for Oxy and work with LAPC a lot, and have not had any issues. At first there were many that got to go that would have been nice to have on staff. In fact a few were good friends and they took the money an semi-retired or retired. It would be nice to get rid of the bitter ones, but I just don’t see how we can pay them off when we can’t even pay the dividend or keep the stock price up. It would not be fair to the stockholders at this time to outlay a lot of cash. I think if they keep complaining on these open forums that management will just pull us all back in the office to keep an eye on us. I for one enjoy WFH and get a lot done, so please guys don’t complain too much on these sites. Enjoy the WFH and the paycheck. Do a fair days work and be professional. We all can be fired for cause, and I am pretty sure any COC agreement would have that in it. Use these next two years during this Covid crisis and downturn to appreciate the fact you have a job and as long as you honor your end your are protected.

Why are the LAPC employees so angry ?
They got a sweet deal
Still think we need another 15% of staff to be released
Need to do it now
Dont wait any longer
Book the cost this year and move on

@3gul+17hdiz6e - You’ve clearly been someone’s lapdog for far too long based on your post. Overall, you represent the economic slavery that put you in your position in the first place, so you have nobody to blame but yourself and promoting job layoffs for your coworkers isn’t an act of self preservation, you’re merely revealing you’re not a team player, hence the lapdog comment. From now on you can start picking up my dry cleaning and being my errand boy, you’re clearly not capable of anything else.

Time for that 30% paycut for the complaining LAPC employees. Piss these slackers off enough so they’ll leave voluntarily and quit dragging us down!!!

Yes, still too many people doing nothing. Agree, we should cut. No way we will ever make it....We are selling the best assets, our debt is $35+B , our production will decline 50% a year, and we have one rig running, so we will end up with $30B debt and 300kbd production soon...VH is so arrogant and everyone knew we would end up here. If it weren't for Buffet, Icahn and wall-street and media sympathy for VH we would be in bankruptcy a long time ago...

Seriously , do we have money for lay-off packages even at minimal.

Screw layoffs. VH, please cut your employees pay starting at 30%. For starters. Please, all these jokers do is complain. Stick it to them. Give them something to complain about. And if they don’t like it, they can move on to their greener pastures. Make them understand, please. Because clearly, they aren’t understanding. Do yourself a favor by doing so. Give them a lesson to be learned. To all you complainers, good luck.

Hopefully they start with those who submitted “name your own price” resignation offers but for LAPC be obligated to do full COC. Fingers crossed.

At this point integration should focus on low cost alternatives with fewer hardware, software, and people costs. Why are you people not reducing overhead costs. Times have changed from when the deal was made.

Post below is 100% correct, and spot on. When you run two systems you need more people. I go across systems all the time everyday, and just moving files is a pain.

We need layoffs but the problem is the integration is a mess. Over a year later and everything is still separate. Even core business functions are on different IT systems. That makes cutting members of either team tough because there has been no cross training or integration efforts.

They need to happen, but maybe do a consult with the direct managers? Some teams look like there a lot of people because of LAPC's presence but our systems aren't even synced so we can't help each other out. Right now it's every man for himself as much as we want/need to work with our LAPC coworkers. We need help, not more people taken off our teams.

Ah, this is awesome. So many ways in which this is justified. Yes, Karma at its best. I could go on forever listing all the reasons this should be happening and all Oxy staff would do is hurl insults and throw tantrums.

I am not a rotten person but I believe layoffs need to happen where they make business sense. Having too many people is bad for the functioning of the company and for the bottom line. Whoever had this “ no lay-off policy” was not anticipating the disaster that we are in.

I used to work for Oxy and took the Severance offered earlier in the year. I want to say that I know how each of you feel. I would also say that the reason I took the package was because of my mental health, not because Oxy was a bad company but rather because businesses have to make decisions that affect me and my family and I realized this.

I pray that none of you go through layoffs and that if a staff reduction happens, that Oxy give you the severance you want. I did not get what I really wanted, but I got what I believe was fair. I hope this is just a rumor for your sake and your family's sake. God bless you all! I pray for you and your leaders that you can make it on top in this time of struggle.

My guess is, if they want them off the books by year end, it’ll be in October sometime given the 60 days. Also the severance payments would be on this fiscal year from an accounting / tax perspective.

Most of the time you are out the door immediately and disconnected from the system for security reasons. Then As you said your actual termination date is 60 days from that point.

Oxy would file any WARN notices the day HR walks in your office and breaks the news to you that your time at Oxy was for nothing. That’s why Oxy’s severance policy has a 60 day notice period.....technically, you are still an employee for 60 days after being told never comeback.

They can’t legally lay off only people who are over 60. It would have to be a voluntary severance without any arm twisting to leave.

@ohl+17hdiz6e Don’t worry, they will. It’s Oxy that’ll need to worry at the end, when there’s only incompetent middle managers left and little talent. If anything the duplicated roles will go away.

If the numbers are not significant it doesn't have to be announced via WARN.
