Thread regarding MetricStream, Inc layoffs

Preventing layoffs

Hi Friends,

Some of my our colleagues highlighted in earlier posts how we are excess staffed in overhead roles in US. This is 100% true. Typically finance dept takes the lead in finding opportunities to cut down costs. But our finance team cannot preach that to other teams because of they way they are overstaffed. Tons of people are sitting in US finance team without adequate work to do. So everybody is trying to pretend to overwork on matters that should not take more than 3 hours a day.

There is no pyramid structure. Every tom, d–k and harry is a VP, AVP, Director, Senior Manager getting $175K to $300K. Many of them frankly don't deserve these titles. You will immediately realize this if you start discussing with them. To make this kind of truck load of money in any other company you have to deliver enormous amount of value and you also need to have that kind of valuable past experience. Most of our finance folks don't have that background and how does our company justify incurring millions of dollars in running an oversized finance team for a small company. Why cannot this work be done in India. Why don't we let go of senior folks except the good ones and hire people at entry level? This will release funds for our company to invest in product development and sales.

There are too many cooks in Metricstream finance kitchen. Unless some with commonsense and guts takes a decision we will be burning cash on such high cost resources who are more interested in 'Title' and 'Pay' but do not bring any value to our company. Many of these folks except few do not have any long term interest in our company's growth. If you do not trust me please go and check their LinkedIn profile after looking into the names in our directory. If you want to avoid layoffs in product teams cut down costs in other overhead teams. Don't mistake me. We all engineers respect many of our Finance team members but our views are about the number of people and unjustified pay and title given to everyone.

Hope some highlights this problem to our private investors who have invested millions into our company. Till such time, we engineers will continue to suffer.

How much you cry in social media about the mistakes doing by metricstream and overhead no one cares. Every department knows how to support their buddies. In this process they lose good resources. It's not something new for metricstream, suggesting good things to metricstream is dangerous to your career. It's good for you to keep quit and do your work, or focus on job change. Remember, this company running under power of ABs and Vs and they don't bring any change in company. Look at US engineers, only 20% people work and remaining 80% are not even eligible to be in company but they are in US because of ABs and Vs support.

Every word you have written is true. The finance folks in US know what you wrote is correct. Many of them have exaggerated linkedin profile and inflated titles and they all know if they leave our company they will not get the same fat pay or title. The outside world will call out their bluff in no time. But still many of our finance team folks keep cribbing they are underpaid and need promotion every year. Trust someone senior takes notice and discusses with our CFO and new CEO

If there is a layoff, the VPs you mentioned in your post who are earning 200-300k are the people going to prepare employees list to include in layoffs. Look at metricstream history, have you ever seen a single VP impacted in any layoff? Same to your finance, all this management have strong top heads support. So always unsafe people are low level employees.
